does anyone hunt small game with their bow? i have thought about it numerous times but never ventured out to actually do it. i have shot a few squirrel with it though. i dont ever want to try hunting birds with it though because the people ive seen shooting them miss so many times and i would think that the wouning rate is insane. its basically all luck when you get them. getting it in the general area is skill but making a killing shot is just luck IMO but i was wondering if anyone hunted rabbits or other small game? if so what do you shoot and whats your success rate?

Only a couple skunks. The one bunny I took when I was 19 I pinned to the ground and the screaming that rabbit made while it tried getting away from that arrow affected me in an adverse way and never used an arrow on one since.

I've taken a few pot shots at pesky squirrels. Never got one.
What about those "judo" tips? When I was in firearms safety class my instructor told me he always kept one arrow with a judo tip in his quiver in case he saw a pheasant, etc. What is the concept of the judo tip? Anyone ever have any success with one?

I carry a Judo tip in my quiver on one of my crappy arrows.  I use it like Johnny camo and shoot at pesky squirrels who won't leave me alone when I'm deer hunting.  They are tough to hit but it usually scares them away for the day.

I did see a cool video on TV of two guys who would walk around in the woods b4 deer season and hone their skills by shooting squirrels.  Pretty neat when they pinned em to the trees.

haha the good ol judo tip. i used to have one like your instructor did. my experience with them is that they are supposed to kill game with the impact of the tip and the springy wires are to keep the arrow from burrying itself under grass and foliage. the springs work great for that but the actuall killing of the tip dosnt work. usually the game is so small that your lucky to hit anything vital. and the judo tips seemed to just bury in the skin and the squirrel would run up the tree. with regular field tips the arrow would penetrate and stick into the ground which would let you kill it instead of watching the squirrel run up the tree with an arrow in its rump

I hunt small game with my bow quite a bit. Hardly ever use my firearms anymore. I use the eastman shocker heads which are a lot like judo points. You do have to practice a lot to be efficient at killing small game. I practice shooting pop bottle tops and poker chips. Playing cards work great for practice too. I practice regularly out to 40-50 yards this way.

When I am out deer hunting and the action is slow I will put on a judo point and start shooting small game. That way I can go home with something. It is a lot of fun.
