I have a member on OTB asking about Minnesota deer hunting in the Northern part of the province. Any of you care to add a comment?

Thanks for your input. I'm curious as well.

Can you post the question here?  It looks like you have to log in to be able to see it.  There are a lot of people here that hunt in the northern part of the state.

Yeah, you have to log in to see the question. We only have a handful of Minnesota members and was hoping to get a few of you guys to check on the forum. I have a link to this forum set up at OTB. The question was basically about the quality of hunting in the Northern part of the state as some members are thinking about hunting in Minnesota. Here was a good response:

There are areas where its as good and areas where its really over hunted and shot out. You'll need to do your homework, get away from roads and people. In other words you'll have to work your tail off if you're looking for a trophy sized whitetail. If its average bucks you're after, then any where in north MN will do, there are alot of deer. There are really big deer every where in this state but you will have to work to get at them. If you hunt like everyone else does you can expect to shoot the same quality that eveyone else gets. If you want something for the wall, then you'll need to step out of the molded stereotype and find a different appraoch to the area. Do this and you just may be dragging out a buck of a life time.

I hunt in Northern MN and that is a fairly accurate comment in renegade's post. It also depends on what you consider "Northern" MN. The terrain is quite a bit different as you go across the state from NWest to NEast. The land goes from farm land to forest land in a big hurry and techniques will have to change along with that. The more forested the area, the more state land is going to be accessible for the public, so there are opportunities available for trophy bucks, but you will have to work for them.
