  I'm sure this has been discussed numerous times before but I need some advice on removing surface rust from black SBE2 barrel.

I have been told bore cleaner and super fine steel wool.  Thoughts?

Red,SBE2 with surface rust?  Must not be camo and the black is a matt finish, never seen either one rust,do you have the wood model with barrel blueing?I would'nt use fine steel wool, consult a good gun smith or 1st use a light gun oil and rub it out with just your fingers,if the steel is not pitted the rust should rub out easily.

snows right.. I think I would even use like a wd40 something penetrating and just rub the snot out of it. I don't think I would go steel wool just yet

Another small step might be to try a dish sponge. The rough side on that might work. It could muck up your finish too though so......

No camo on this one.  All black with synthetics.  I was surprised myself when I found rust on it.  Kinda embarrassing considering how well I try to keep my stuff clean...

I realize that this thread is super old, but in case you havent come up with a plan yet, naval jelly works well for rust.  If its pitted, then youre sunk, but if its just surface rust, naval jelly will do.  Might want to try applying it with some 000 steel wool for a little abrasiveness.

Use 0000 steel wool and gun oil.  Keep everything lubricated and rub lightly the rust
will come right off with no harm to the finish of the metal.  Do not use synthetic
abrasives as they will harm the finish.

I finally got the barrel back, I broke down and took it in to a gunsmith.  Did a nice job getting out 95% of it, missed a few spots.  I'll finish it up and then continue the count down until Duck opens.

Thanks for all your ideas, much appreciated.
