Lake LaMoure Closed to Access until Further Notice

Due to recent erosion of the emergency spillway at Lake LaMoure, and the need for necessary stabilization, city and county officials in LaMoure have closed access roads to the lake for at least two weeks.

In addition, Mark Pollert, North Dakota Game and Fish Department district game warden in LaMoure, said the use of watercraft on the lake is prohibited until further notice.

“We want to make sure everyone stays off the water, and at no time should anyone be in the area of the dam or the eroded emergency spillway due to hazardous conditions,” Pollert said.

Of immediate concern are the lot renters who would like to retrieve personal property that washed away due to flooding. “There is debris floating all over the lake,” Pollert said. “We are aware of some personal property needing to be retrieved, but basically they are going to have to wait until the restrictions are lifted to access the water.”

Lake LaMoure is located 4 miles south of LaMoure in LaMoure County. It is situated on Cottonwood Creek, a tributary of the James River.
