The fishing in the Ely area has been sporadic because of the cold water temps, but is beginning to pick up a bit.

Birch Lake: We are getting reports of walleye, northern pike, and crappie being caught in 8-15 FOW in the bays or near shorelines.

Shagawa Lake: Fishing has been slow on the lake, with the best reports being on smallmouth bass. Walleye fishing has been inconsistant.

Snowbank Lake: Walleye fishing slow, but trout being caught in 10-40 FOW.

White Iron Lake: Fishing for walleye slow, but some nice pike being caught.

Burntside Lake: Northern Pike being caught in 10-20 FOW in bays.  Some smallmouth being caught, but are not on their beds yet, and may not spawn this year because of the cold water.

There is a pattern on all lakes that fishing the warmer waters of bays and shorelines are having the most success. The forecast doesn't look very warm until the 15th of June, but can change.

Two or three warm days wilth low winds will change the fishing dramatically.  Will report again within a few weeks to let the forum know of any changes in fishing patterns.

Water temps currently about 55-60 on the surface, but can be in the low 50's to upper 40's a few feet down.

Thanks for the report even if it's not all good news, I'm sure it's accurate. Please see what you can do about the weather situation up there because I'll be coming up your way in only 17 days from now. :fishing: Do you think it would do any good if I contact the Ely chamber of commerce about the weather?

Lee,
I'm sure you will get some good "effort" if you contact the chamber about the weather! :happy1:
However, Linda is not highly skilled at driving Ely's new "Weather Machine", and at times, we do not get what we requested.
Kind of like ordering a steak with fries, but getting a piece of undercooked liver and spinach when the order arrives! ;D
