Hello all,
I've never posted a fishing report as I'm fairly new but I thought I'd post my first one.

Went out today on the St. Croix and did better than anticipated.  I'm new to the river but between myself and a buddy we boated a 24" walleye and a 20" smallmouth.  We only caught 2 walleyes (24" and 13"), a few smaller smallmouth in addition to the 20" and many other fish that I'm not even sure what they were.

We were using nightcrawlers.

I hope this info is somewhat helpfull to someone.

Nice first report and welcome aboard. Keep posting what you are, it will help others. Try using leeches next time out and a good 3 foot snell. Red hooks have been working really well right now.
Friends are like buttcheeks..........crap might separate them, but they come together in the end.

Sandmannd,
Thanks, I've never caught a smallmouth that big before, I was pretty excited.  I do like to use leeches but I've got a ton of nightcrawlers left over from a recent fishing trip.  I was using a 3-4ft snell and a single red bead ahead of the hook.

Try a chartruse bead above a red hook. Might help a little but either are good. Those river fish are fun to catch, lots of shoulders on them. Wait till you get into the slap crappies out there.
