Sunday 9/20/09 Report  :fishing:

Hit the water at 5:30 am with today's client Kevin Wallin and 15 yr old son Zack. After a brief dockside crash course on trolling 101 it was off to the races. Today we had some decent cloud cover early with a limited morning chop on the water. Lots of floating grass/weed that just loves to slide down your line and cling to your baits. Therefore you have to keep checking your lures to avoid ruining your chances of catching fish.

Young Kevin seemed to have the hot color lure today as he proceeded to smoke his dad handily on the pike fishing action this morning. Later the guys seemed to break out about even with the smallmouth action with dad busting out with a dandy Largemouth in about 22 ft. The last two hours of the morning seemed to hold the best action. With the East winds picking up giving us the type of action we were looking for.

The guys were talking next Spring already buy days end and will be calling for an early date to beat the crowds next year. Over all a good time had by all and some more new clients for Lee.

*** Fishing History:

The truth is that live-bait fishing has a long and noble history. Live bait was totally unknown to the early caveman, who had to make do with a rather limited assortment of dry flies, nymphs, and a few streamers. One day, whether out of exasperation or simple impatience, a caveman made a backcast with a gray hackle he had not bothered to remove from a sage hen. Instantly, it was taken by a brontosaurus. The caveman was elated by his discovery, even though it was several centuries before anyone learned how to take the brontosaurus off the hook.

See ya on the water,

Lee

Wouldn't that be more accurately called reptiling? And thanks for the update on the little known relationship between the brontosaurus and the sage hen.

Thanks professor.

"reptiling"  I like it! I may recruit you as a co-author on future reports.
