I am looking at buying a Browning brand shotgun pump action (5 shells).  I am worried about jams and general equipment quality as far as having to replace or fix problems.  Any advice/info would be appreciated.   :help:  Thanks.

um ya i would say browning is a pretty good gun brand lol. as for 5 shells most guns hold 5 shells all you gotta do is remove the plug out of the tube. i have a 12 gauge browning BPS and i love it.

I've had a BPS for 20 years and have only had 2 issues with it in all those years. one issue was the nut on the end of the slide worked itself loose.. and I had some bad steel shells that hung it up. other wise the only down side is it's hard to put back together when you take it down.. but I love my BPS and still hunt with it every year.

I have heard good things and bad.  And those depend upon how well you take care of your gun...

Never had a BPS like you're looking at getting, but Ive owned many Browning O/U's (Citoris) and a Browning A-Bolt rifle and they were all very dependable, beautiful, well made guns.... John Browning came up with some incredible firearms that still are around as well as other mfg.'s "borrowing" many of his designs..... personally, its hard to go wrong with the brand... just my two cents.... :happy1:

I had a bps and hated it.  I bought the slug barrel for it to use for deer.  About every 3 shell the brass would split or expand and get stuck in the barrel.  I tried every brand of shell and they all did it.  I took it to 2 different gun smiths and they both said that everything was within the specs and there wasn't anything wrong with the gun.  My best friend had the same gun and he could shoot any type of slug he wanted without any trouble.  I cleaned the gun every year after deer season.  It was the most acurate slug gun I have ever shot, but sometimes it turned into a single shot.

I have never used a slug with my BPS. so I can't speak to that type of usage with it. my experience was only with bird type shooting

The only Browning anything I ever owned is a bps 10 bore. The bows were terrible and known for snapping limbs and hurting people in the early years but I do not leave the house for the waterfowl blind without the bps 10. I keep goose loads in it and keep it on the left side of my double gun case. In my right pockets I keep my 12 ga. duck loads and left pockets are the 10 ga. goose shells. that way I do not get mixed up when the birds are coming in.. The browning has preformed flawlesssly for me in the seven years that it has been in my arsenal. I have an aquaintance that uses only a 10 guage bps for all his waterfowl hunting and he would rather die than shoot anything else. He claims that with steel loads the more shot and powder really accelerated his kill ratio. I have seen too many browning semi auto rifles jam up that I will not bother with them. but a bps is one of the best right up there with a mossberg 835.

Ditto on the bps, bought my 10ga in 1986,never missed a beat, rarely shoot it these days with hevi shot on the market, but for high flyers pass shooting the 10ga in #2 hevi shot out performs my benelli 3.5 10 to 1 shooting hevi loads.Don't worry about the bps, she's a dandy.
