The bite has improved this week. Some of the best action has been found out in Zipple Bay, the Morris Point Gap, and the Lighthouse Gap. Due to some north winds last week the south shore is still a bit stirred up in areas. Fishing in the Rainy River has been sporadic. Some of the most consistent action in the river has been early in the morning and later in the evening. Although there are less numbers of fish being caught in the river, it seems that’s where some of the bigger Walleye are being caught. Jigging with a shiner or frozen shiner has been the go to presentation. Red, pink, gold, orange, white and combinations of those colors have been popular this past week. A little heavier jig, in the 3/8 to 3/4 ounce range, is needed in the river.

Temperatures have dipped below freezing the past few nights, helping the water temperature to drop. The water temperature in front of the lodge is 46 degrees today. The shiner minnows are continuing to run well in certain areas of the river, but are still moving inconsistently in this part of the river.

There are still plenty of pheasants waiting to be hunted out at the Hunt Club. This cool fall weather has been ideal for hunting. Only three weeks left of October fishing. Now is the time to cure your fishing itch before it’s too late.

Fish On!
