30.06 Shells????
Anyone having a hard time finding these in the 165 gr.?  I only ask because I had to replace a scope last week and need to sight it in.  Not sure one box will cut it.

I have been trying to find Winchester 30.06 SPRG 165 gr. Pointed Soft Point.  Comes in a silver box.  Anyone have a box they are willing to part with? 

I have tried Fleet Farm, Cabelas, Gander, and even had my brother check 4 stores back home.

165 grain is all i have been able to find. there are very little 30-06 shells left until they restock them.

I want 165's but I cannot find them any where.  No 180's either but tons of 150 gr.  Ideas where they have some for sure?

Sounds good CG.  I did have my Dad check some stores inb Madison when he was there today for work and he found Federal Fusion 165's.  I think they should be pretty close to the Winchester 165 I shoot now.  What do you think?

i know a few people that shoot fusions and they havent changed so they must be decent shells. i have never personally tryed them. but i dont think they should be to far off. but ask yourself if you would shoot a different bullet at a trophy that you have never shot out of your gun or at the range even..

Very good point.   :scratch:

I do know my gun tolerates Federal and Winchester in both 150 and 165 so I think it's a safe bet to take.  I currently am sighted in at 1 inch high at 100 yds with Winchester 165. Did that today as I dialed in a brand new scope.  I will surely re-sight/re-shoot as needed before I use the Federal considering you may get the one chance a a trophy as you stated earlier.

i havent had time to pull it out again. been busy with work and deer hunting. planning on taking it out maybe this weekend. going to try to get a coyote or 2 next weekend.

I have four boxes of 30.06 springfield federal 150 gr. soft point I do not need. + a bunch of 30.06 sprg. ball. When I go through it all I will list in these classifieds.

I might have some Remington boat tail Pointed soft points ?Not a whole box though, as I tried them in my mdl 700 but it didn't like them.

I checked Cabelas again in Rogers and still no 165 gr. Winchesters.  What gives?  Are they short on the supply or a decrease in raw materials?

back to the 1st post that win. 20.00 a box stuff is what my 721 .06 likes 150 & 165 same thing cant find it when I got the cash. Thats why I just started reloading havent loaded my first yet I also got a 7mm rem mag it likes the cheep win but its not no 20.00. Maby some can help me out here with powder Iam looking at that IMR 4350 I see it being used in both rounds and all looks good on paper any one got some input

cva I havn't looked but I'm sure there are many knids of powder that are used in both. Once you start getting more into it, you will gather and accummulate more load data as well as supplies. I don't know that I've used that powder but I've found that almost any powder can work good with the right charge and bullets. I think that bullet selection is more important than type of powder. Things that I pay attention to with powder is $$, fouling and availability. Not knowing how much you shoot, I'll say that bargain and volume shopping is something you will do if not already. It just seems to be part of the hobby.

I have begun to see the shelves in various stores be replenished with 165 gr shells from different manufacturers. I will be buying more than I need since I'm sure the $$$ will go up and we'll see a shortage again come fall.

Not trying to hijack this post here. But reloading how do all of you pick out a bullet? I have been doing up my first batch of rounds. doing it step by step reading as I go. So far polished brass in tumbler with cron cob & dillon rapid polish 290 lube cases with dillon case lube deprime & resize. Now trying to figyer out to how to work case trimer (got this set up used so derections not there) HELP it is a hornady setting it up?

Let me start by saying there are people who know lots more than I. A case trimmer is relatively easy to figure out. They usually have a nut with a set screw to set the trim length. There are lengths min/max that are standard for each different calibur, use your caliper to measure the first few til it's right. Then do them all. For hunting purposes u shouldn't need to do them every time but it can't hurt either.

How do I pick out a bullet? Depends on what I'm going to use it for. It has been my experience that each gun tends to like certain weight bullets. It isn't much difference. If your hunting deer and your max range will be say 300 yds. Any bulletweight for that size animal should work. If your trying to drive tacks at that range, then you've just got to develop a load to fit that gun. That gets more technical. Bottomline IMO for bullets is figure out your target, ranges and then go from there. There are so many options, it's endless. What a great hobby.

Ok Iam back I got all the equipment figyerd out. Bullets this is FUN (I now got 3 cross acddictions).06 nosler 165 gr 7RM 175 nosler both use the same powder across the board. Going to the reload shop today come home and see if I can blow my self up LOL

Won't blow urself up as long as you use common sense from what you've learned. It's a great hobby after a few yrs you'll find yourself with boxes of bullets that you need to buy a gun to use.
