April sure flew by! The Walleye run on the Rainy River was nothing short of phenomenal this year. That was followed by good Sturgeon fishing, with some giant fish being caught in the last few weeks. Some Sturgeon fishermen are still getting good numbers of big Walleyes while targeting Sturgeon! Suckers, eelpout, and perch are being caught on occasion too. So even though everyone is chasing big Sturgeon right now, other fish are keeping folks busy while waiting out the Sturgeon. The keep season for Sturgeon will remain open through May 7th. Catch-and-release fishing is allowed until May 15th.

A decent Sturgeon bite is going on still in 4 Mile Bay and in the section of the Rainy River in front of Border View. As we reach the tail end of the Sturgeon run, it seems the better numbers and bigger fish are now showing up with more consistency in the Baudette sections of the river and towards Clementson, Frontier and Birchdale.
