Ely area fishing opener report

The opening day of walleye fishing was rather slow due to the cold water temps.  Most of those having luck were fishing in 20+ FOW.
Lac La Croix has produced many nice crappies in 7-10 FOW.
Temps warmed a bit today with good catches of walleyes being taken on Shagawa Lake in 10-14 FOW.
Northern Pike were active both days with many being caught, 44 1/2 inches the largest reported.
Warmer water should help fishing pick up for all species.

The next 15 day forecast looks good, highs in the 70's, lows in the mid 40's at night, which should make fishing quite a bit better.
Will keep you posted on water temps and fishing conditions as it changes.

How are the water levels in the Ely area. Are they still very low? I see they lifted the fire ban.

Yep, the water levels are low.  We need about a one week rain to bring them back.
