Lake Geneva report 6/11/10

Today I had Tim and Jeff Carlson once more and they invited none other than another Carlson Uncle Guy. While waiting for the boys at the Linn launch Uncle Guy pulled up first a 4:30 am. Guy stated he felt like he was forgetting something. The red flag popped up for me right away. " Let's see now Guy, could it be a fishing license?" Bingo! Where can I get one at this time he said?

I told him that Wallmart sells um if it's a 24 hr store here in town. He checked his GPS and it says open 24 hrs. With no time to waste Guy was gone in a flash and back in a flash with license in hand. Meanwhile Jeff and Tim had pulled up and were loading the boat with all the stuff they didn't need to bring.

After a sluggish start we were only 15 min behind schedule and fishing already. As we hit our first morning spot the guys picked up some decent bass along with 2 pike cut offs. I've been hitting this area every trip out this year and it's always given up some bass action. I next decided to hit one of the oldie but goodie areas on the north shore and it was paying off with lots of dividends. All smallies with a few rockies. The smallmouth were moving in and out of the area for hrs and we milked it for everything we could manage to catch. Just in that one spot we nailed 18 smallies. Tim was about as excited as one could get as we kept encountering decent smallmouths.

When things went cold It was back to hunt elsewhere. Our final spot was working the top of a steep break in 24 ft while anchored. This gave us a slower presentation for some of those finicky fish. Anchoring is a lost art for many anglers, but should never be overlooked as it is a deadly weapon. As we wrapped up a successful day and the boys were talking about a mid Summer trip in early August.

See ya on the water,

Lee
