To A Great Dog!

A few weeks ago a very good friend of mine called me,and told me he had to put his dog down.He was having a hard time with this decision,I told him he should remember all the great hunts they had shared.I also told him she had lived a long and loving life.I also told him that one day he and I will hunt over her again,lord knows we sent enough birds to heaven to to walk those fields for eternity.He said this helped him through a tough time.
               Well, today I made that decision.For the past 12 years my lab "Lexie"has done all I have asked of her.She was the best Dog I could have asked for and more!She was found to have cancer that was fast and nasty.So today we sent her to the big field in the sky.It's a hard thing we do,but it comes with the love a dog gives you.Those of you who know me,knew Lexie.She waits for us at the gate ready to go birdin' forever.They say a man is entitled to one great dog in his life,I've been blessed with two.I will let the grief and pain go away and maybe see if I can push my luck for number three.
             Save some birds for me old girl,I love you and I will hunt with you again!

this has happened here before as well. those of us who love and accept dogs as part of their life, family either have or will experience it.
it is not easy for anyone.
when it gets to the point such as the case with lexie, you can see it in the dog as well, they are ready to go.
we are procrastinating with dixe as well. she has good days, and then she has bad days.
I will as you, remember the great days.

Sorry to hear about Lexie. We had the chance to pet her and talk at her. She was a very nice gentle dog. If I remember right she liked to lift your hand to make you keep petting her. They say you live longer with a pet. Good luck on your search for a new one.

Condolences Goose.  Man that bites.   Lexie was a real sweat girl and I really enjoyed her. 

That day is coming sooner than I like to think for my old cocker Lucy as well.  She is going on 14 now and is starting to show it more each day.  I dread it, but it comes with the territory I guess.
