Fishing action in the Ely area has been mediocre the last few weeks due to several reasons.
High winds have prevented many from being able to fish the places they prefer, and the water temps are dropping.
Burntside Lake near Ely had a surface temp of 58-59 degrees yesterday.  The 58 degrees continued down to about 37 FOW and had dropped to 53 degrees in 44 FOW.
Both Burntside and Snowbank Lakes had slow fishing, and smallies were spotted in 44+ FOW with cameras.
Shagawa Lake had the best reports with walleyes being taken in 8-10 feet on plain hooks tipped with leeches or crawlers.
The White Iron Chain of Lakes (WICOLA) had crappies hitting in 15 FOW, but slow for other species.
Basswood Lake had northern pike in 10-20 FOW, and walleyes in 17-22 feet.
Lake turnover should happpen over the next 2-3 weeks if low nightly temperatures continue.

Oh, yes! The dreaded turnover period. In my neck of the woods the fishing really goes to pot for 7 to 10 days during turnover as the fish scatter all throughout the water column.

Glad to see your back in action after your stay in the hospital G.O. :happy1:

Keep those reports comming. It won't be long and you'll be reporting ice depths.
