here's my rule of thumb--

a man needs to buy at least one new gun each year. that means if you skipped a year, you owe yourself two.  the beauty of this rule is, that most guys don't actually start buying guns until they are at least sixteen, so you start off your adulthood well in the hole. I wouldn't rush out and buy sixteen guns all at once to make up for this, instead, when that special occasion comes around when a guy comes to you and says "man, I'm in a bind and I need some cash....wanna buy a gun"?
we know the deal, the eyebrows perk up, you are already thinking about how much cash you have in your wallet,...this alone is the perfect example of why a guy needs that secret compartment in the back of his wallet, to stash an extra twenty or fifty or hunert when they fall into his lap. how about when a buddy says, "hey, want to go to the gun show"? but you insist that you have enough guns? this line of thinking is also a sign of insanity for those of you who didn't catch it. so you go to that gun show only to find the sweetest matched set of mossberg over unders from twenty eight guage up to twelve guage.this is when we slowly but surely start to catch up for those years of our youth.
you get the picture so far?
here is a common method to measure a mans self worth. no, it's not by how many kids he raised and sent through college, not by how many lives he's saved, not by how many years he has been faithfully married to the same woman (some would argue that this also is yet another sign of insanity, while I wonder about this, I will not get in their way) and no, it is not by any other list of life long acheivments other than one's "Chamber status"
the "Chamber status" is measured by how many gun chambers a man has.
while I state that a man should own a gun for each year of his life, there should be no assumption that one should be penalized for having more guns than his age.
a chamber is counted for each gun a man owns.
side by sides and over unders count as two for obvious reasons.
handguns, including revolvers, and semi automatic weapons all count as one, but they are cool. B B guns do not count unless you are under eighteen.
don't feel bad guys if you fall short. I fall a little short myself, but not by much. it just means I have a little catching up to do ;)

whats your "chamber status"?
so fella's, add them up,

snowsnake, you are undoubtedly refering to garage logic's Cylinder Index or more commonly refered to as your C.I.

these two guages run a common parralell, but are different.
my C.I. is quite nicely above my age so I am in good shape there.
now to count my chambers, which I am afraid, are lacking :-[

I really don't know what my chamber status is as I've never counted. But I did buy three this yr and 11 last yr but sold four. I guess ya could say if I havn't met my quota I'm still catching up. ;D
