I am trying to improve upon my goose calling skills.

I use a Zink PC-1 Power Clucker call and it doesn't sound like a goose. Not deep sounding as much as I would like. I do practice and have tried many times to tune it but I cannot seem to get it to work and sound correct.  I have brought in and turned geese into our spreads but I still am not set on the sound.

Recommendations for a call to use?  But I don't want to dump $150 on a new call.

Do any of you have a calling video I could borrow and return?  I'll pay postage.

Thanks.

Youtube is a cheap way to learn a lot of things, I myself don't have calling videos or CD's, just mess around on Youtube looking up tutorials, etc.

There are CD's or audio files that you can put onto a CD and listen to into your car - I have hung my call from the rearview mirror and practiced my calls on long driving trips.
I am still not good, I was practicing my duck calling, but same thing.
If you have a tape player - there are tapes too, but not alot of cars have tape players anymore!

There are some decent calls you can get for a decent price - no need to spend $100+

Oh, oh.  I can see the headlines now.  Local many crashes getting goosed.  New law being disucssed.  No goose calling while driving.   :rotflmao:

The last time Red and I went up north.....I thought the leaves were falling because of the wind :whistling:. But because of the lack of wind, Finpower and I realized that it was those horrible goose noises coming from Red's spot that was scaring the leaves into submission!!  :rotflmao: JK Red, yer gettin' better bud!

Just remember who called in the four geese before legal on opener and the micro goose FinnPower whacked.  Sometimes I wonder why I put up with you....

otherwise i dont know, i would avoid the canada hammer, which sounds bad no matter what you do. i do have the sean manns short reed call (90$) and messed it up trying to tune it haha. the zinks one as well, its higher pitched and just dont sound right to me, like you said, also tryed to tune that one and now it dont even sound close to what it did before so i have to figure it out. but for beginners like myself and yourself the flute is by far the easyest.

I think there is a long river call that is wood, that is easy to blow.
HUNT & FISH TELL YA DROP

You're missing out Cody.... you mean to tell me as a little kid, you never dipped regular chips into ketchup at a BBQ or picnic?  Same thing, only better.

I'm sure there are other less expensive calls out there and I have gone thru a bunch,my personal fav for years was "Big River Flute",this call revalutionized the goose call world back in the mid 80's along with the Olts A-50 flute modified for giant canadas. So as stated above these flute calls are very easy to learn and have great sound  and work well even tho you don't get the range and tones as you do with the higher end calls.

I also believe in using a call that not eveyone else has or uses, different tones done right will turn geese and most often finish the birds right in your lap with just a little different sound, most often guys over call or scream at commited birds locked, then wonder why the birds flare at 100yds or so,something else to think about unless your really good on a short reed is "donot try to sound like a flock of geese" work on one or two basics from the "high ball" long range or for going away birds,to soft moans and groans for committed birds.

Find a field or refuge, sit and listen to how the birds communicate,in the fall you'll rarley here them double clucking but yet thats how we see these waterfowl outfitter shows do it and pound the birds in areas loaded with migrators like canada and north dakota or down south.

Just a few thoughts~

Exactly my point.  The Zink I use doesn't sound like anything else I have ever heard in a goose call.  Do I stick with it or switch/add something different?

Stick with it for now and buy a cheapy like mine. No two geese sound alike and you'll hear a variety of sounds within a group. The science is that there is nothing particular that you can do EXACTLY every time to turn every goose into a steak. Just worry about not scaring the hell outta them and like snow said, stronger and higher for distance and softer and lower for committed. Finpowers old neighbor had an excellent cd we'd listen to that played the different sounds that a flock of geese made from long range, all the way in and then while they were on the ground and what sounds they made to bring in other geese. Very informative ;D
