It’s been a perfect weekend of fishing. Temperatures were in the 50s and 60s all weekend and there was just the right amount of wind for a good Walleye chop on the lake. Just about everybody has been getting limits of fish and throwing back plenty too. There are a ton of 15-19” Walleye hanging just outside the Lighthouse Gap in 20-24’. The shiners are stacked up out there as well. Fishermen are only seeing a few big Walleye so far though. The bigger Walleyes should start to mix in soon.  Some anglers are still fishing out as deep as 30’ but it seems more fish are active in shallower. The Saugers have been feeding heavily as of late too. There is lots of sorting to be done with them. Jumbo Perch are showing up here and there as well. We saw a few Perch in the cleaning house this week as big as 14 inches. Even some Eelpout and big Sturgeon are being caught. The water temperature is 47 degrees in the Rainy River today.

The Rainy River bite is still improving. Mornings and evenings have been the best, with flurries of action throughout the day. Even though most fishermen are hitting the lake, some fishermen are getting their limit of fish without a problem in the river. Fish are holding in 10-20 feet of water, with the most active fish in shallow. A 1/2 ounce jig is plenty on the river. Some guys are getting away with a 3/8 ounce even. Green, gold, yellow, pink, and orange or any combination of those colors has been best.

With one week left in October, things are winding down. Come enjoy some of the best fishing of the year while you still can. The best fishing is close by so a small boat is all you need!
