We had the final charter trip of the season today. It looks like there will be limits of Walleye and Sauger to go home once again! The lake remains churned up after the windy week we had. The water in the Rainy River is cleaner, as is the water near the Lighthouse Gap. As the river flows into the lake it is pushing the dirtier water out. 15-22 feet of water out from the Gap and over to the Morris Point Gap has been giving up plenty of Walleye and Sauger. Most of the Walleyes have been eaters in the 15-19 inch range, but there’s been some big ones mixed in too. Action on the river has been fair to good lately. The current has picked up some, making a ½ ounce jig the way to go. Shiners in the river are still sporadic at best. We are not seeing many minnows, but the few we have been getting are really good sized. The water temperature is down to 42 degrees. Some of the back bays off the river have even seen a skim of ice the past few mornings.

The lake looks to be in great shape for the upcoming winter. The Walleye population remains strong. The Saugers are just about a guarantee to provide action, as they continue to produce strong year classes. Not only are there great numbers of eater fish, but the trophy Walleyes are definitely there too. During the past summer, Captain Lanny and Captain Fox both set personal bests for number of protected slot fish and BIG Walleyes in their boat on a single day. With all the years of guiding experience on Lake of the Woods between the two of them, it says a lot about how good this fishery is right now.

The restaurant and bar will not be open starting November 1st. We will re-open when ice fishing begins. Cabin rentals are still available for the month of November at our reduced fall rates.
