Why can't people just follow the rules and regs?

It sickens me that there are people this dis-honorable and would even brag about being such a
dip- :censored:
I saw a preview for a show coming up this month on NAT GEO called "wildlife justice". I'm eager to watch this.

i dont see the thrill ppl get by taking a wild animal out of season or unethical i personally think it should be a one time thing you do it once and you never hunt or fish again ever to many ppl try so hard year after year to take a trophy and come up empty handed and the poachers put no effort into it and still want to call it a trophy it sickens me to see and know that ppl do that crap
Hunting is not life and death. It is more important than that.

I dont get people sometimes... I will give them the benefit of the doubt that they didnt know the limit was 3 birds, but they should have checked the Regs (ALWAYS DO THAT BEFORE YOU HUNT ANYTHING).  But to take a deer with no tag, 2 bucks, etc etc,  :police:
It is despicable that some poeple have no respect for the sport.
Someone poached a buck behind my house (IN THE METRO), where there are lots of deer, but you cannot hunt since its in the city.  There are some nice deer running around, and I wish I could hunt them - but I guess someone did and got a buck.
They never caught the guy, but the arrow was stick in someones tire I guess, so thats why they knew a deer was shot (IDK the whole story).

Some people just dont follow the rules and and majority dont get caught, but good thing this is getting some news time, because then maybe some people will learn.

I have no time for poachers. They knowingly break the law and get a slap on the wrist. I personally think EVERY hunter needs to know the regs letter for letter and if they break the law, their done for, never again aloud to hunt fish, ect..... If you don't know the laws or plan on breaking them, STAY OUT OF THE WOODS AND OFF THE LAKES !!!

I agree a little here however so many laws are left up to the interprutation of the CO so depending on mood and personal belief one CO may read a law differently than the next. AS far as limits those laws are clear but some things are not black and white.

I think the laws are very clear and whenever there is a doubt all a person has to do is pick up the phone and call the local CO. Everytime I have spoken to one they were more than happy to clairfy the law being questioned. If the interpertation of the law by the CO is not agreed by you or a hunter being cited, there is always the judge to make a final decision.

I think some people take these things a little extreme. If you lose privlages for life over one instance perhaps we should take away drivers licenses from everyone who speeds or changes lanes without a signal.

Though I think they should get tougher on poachers than they currently are, the one strike and you are out deal doesnt cut it for me... for poachers yes, but not for the minor slip up scenario... There are both good and bad co's (and regular officers also) that arent fully knowledgable on all laws, and the public shouldnt get hung for an officers misjudgement on a single instance... Ive been there, done that, and fought and beat it in both instances..... just sayin.....  If I gave the examples, you would be pretty amazed.  And this isnt a dig at our co's... most of them do a fantastic job , and I definatly wouldnt want to walk ten miles in their shoes.

Agreed 100%
I got a cite once for not signing my waterfowl stamp. Sure I was pissed, but I paid the fine and haven't made that mistake again. Should I have lost all hunting privileges indefinitely for that? I don't think so.

Maybe he was party hunting and the other guy tagged one of the bucks. Maybe the guy taking the picture of the geese was hunting also. Then they could have 12. Or, maybe it was early goose season where you can shoot 5 a piece.

hunter2, the laws have changed. you cannot tag a buck for another hunter. you are allowed only 1 buck per year party hunting included. you can still tag does as a party though.

what this all comes down to is morals. and sometimes jealousness. i think most of it happens because someone that spends years hunting and rarely  sees a deer hears of some guys passing on big 10's to let them grow. who doesnt want a big buck to brag about? but the need to realize that you must put in the work and harvest legally to be proud.

america doesnt like work and thinks they can take what they want when they want however they want. your just seeing the countries trend happening in the hunting world.
my wife said it.... im OFFICIALLY ADDICTED to MNO!!

Does not say anything like that in the regulation book...

PARTY HUNTING
• A “party” is defined as any group of two or more licensed deer hunters
who are all afield; hunting together at the same time; and all
using firearms (including muzzleloaders) or all using archery.
• A mixed group of firearms and archery hunters is considered two
separate parties.
• Crossbow hunters may not party hunt with firearms hunters.
• Crossbow hunters may party hunt with archery hunters if they
possess an archery license with a crossbow disability permit.
• Any member of a party meeting this definition may kill a deer for any
other member of the party who has an unused tag valid for that deer.
• Some restrictions apply to 300 series deer permits. See page 78.
• Party members may not kill an antlerless deer in a lottery deer area
for: 1) a member of the party who is a resident under age 18; or 2) a
disabled person authorized to take antlerless deer under a permit to
shoot from a motor vehicle.
• Party members may not kill an antlerless deer for a youth in limited
youth-only areas.

I think stevejedlenski is referring to the changes made in Zone 3.  I believe there they have antler restrictions and no cross tagging.  Nothing changed in the rest of the state where it's still legal for one hunter to KILL more than one buck as long as he/she is hunting with someone who has a valid buck tag.   In the referrenced case, the guy didn't tag or register the first buck.

It always makes me wonder what future we have for hunting when I see the kind of reaction I see on this thread.  Yeah, breaking the law is bad, we set bag limits for a reason.  Sustainable wildlife.  That being said, people go way overboard on the reaction. The legislatures seems to have more common sense than most of the average hunters out there.  That is what scares me.  Loosing his gun and paying a steep fine is more than punishment enough for taking 30 lbs of meat and a couple of flying rats over his limit.

Now if he stole them out of my freezer....that would be another thing.

Well, I think its the principle and not knowing where they will stop.  Maybe in this case they didnt know the limit, fine.  Ok, they shot another buck when they can only shoot one, fine.  But if they think thats ok, where will they end.  If they are hunting up north and see a moose, will they shoot it?
Will they hunt out of season?
Will they take over the limit of other game animals?

-- I think it is just proving that its not OK to poach and its important to follow the rules.  To me it seems that with respect for the outdoors and for the sports, people will follow the rules.  Its those "vigilante's"  :taz: that dont respect the rules and regs that set bad examples.

There will always be people that take animals they shouldnt, but its important to inforce the laws.   :happy1:

The laws need to carry a stiffer penelty. If they acutually had to serve some jail time for poaching, people MIGHT think twice before doing it. I say might because we all know there are people out there that are not smart enough to figure it out after the first..... dozen times of breaking the laws.

My hats off to the ones in the Southern part of the state who reported them selves when realizing they shot a buck that did not meet the 4 point antler restriction. Yes, the got fines, and I know my earlier post was "take everything away from them", but, that post was me being frustrated with the whole poaching thing. I think personally, myself, I have a short fuse for poaching, why? Because the majority of what is heard is "Another Record Book Animal Was Poached". If someone kills a record book animal, throw the book at them.

Heres a good one for you. When I was younger (many many moons ago) 2 of my friends got busted with to many ducks over the limit. They knew they were breaking the law. The game warden took their weapons, boat and ducks. To get their stuff back, they had to give speachs to every Natural Resource class in the High School on "Why Poaching is Wrong and Knowing the Hunting Regs" after do that and voulenteering at the local parks they were give their equipment back.

I would go along with that.  I believe the punishment is harsh to prevent those who can afford it to do what ever they want.  Some would just put it in the "cost of doing business" catagory.
