Hopefully I will bag a nice deer this weekend.  From what I've heard from several people, they said that they didn't do very well on the opener.  I'm wondering if the full moon had anything to do with it, keeping the deer moving at night and bedding during the day.  With the possible snow moving in, and the cooler weather, it should hopefully keep the deer moving.  I will give a report when I get back.  Mayfly's brother will be hunting with me this weekend, we'll see if he can show him up. ;)

The deer have started to move a little more (at least in Grand RapidS).  More have been seen but last report on Tuesday night we still only had two deer.  I am sure the cold and snow coming in will have them going close to 100%...

Kinda weird...It seems like the people that did good last weekend did really good! But on the flipside more people did bad.

I could be wrong here and I'm sure many will argue with me, but, I have put on miles in the woods, in known "buck" areas and I have not seen that much rut sign.
the rubs on the trees seem better than a month old except for a few, and I have only seen a handful of scrapes. I have not seen or heard of bucks chasing does yet. in fact I just recently saw a 140 class ten hanging with a small eight, just browsing on the roadside ???
that big bad boy should be out looking for romance eh?

at the very least, in my oppinion, it has only just begun in these parts and is in no way in full swing.

what are your observations so far this past week?
take a kid hunting and fishing!!

I only saw a doe and fawn last weekend (30 minutes into Saturday).  I passed first thinking the doe was small, but then realized how big she was when the fawn came out.  This weekend she is down.

When we heading to town Friday Night on the backroads, we saw the biggest buck I had ever seen in person.  It was at least 8 points and had at least 7" tines.  Just standing there on the side of the road just outside of town, when we went to stop he turned and ran off... On our 30+ mile round trip we only saw 3 deer, and this was before the shooting started.

Hopefully this weekend is better.  I should have a full report tomorrow AM.

I know they are chasing in the Forest Lake area. Since Monday I have seen 3 big boys on the move. This is the first time I have seen a buck in my yard..and 3 of them at seperate times.

One more big Doe put down yesterday by my uncle.  My dad said they haven't started to trail yet at all.

Unfortunatly I won't be heading up this weekend.  My wife's uncle died (she was very close to him) in AZ so I will be heading down there this weekend.  Next weekend look out, I will be getting my revenge.

The three properties I hunt are all showing a ton of sign: rub lines, scrapes up the arse and the bucks are really on the move.  Just this morning I drove the in-laws property and pushed a nice 6-point RIGHT to the father-in-law.
(Easy-peasy...when they run in the right direction! ;) ;D)
