Third River

Does anybody know if the third river up on winnie is froze over yet?

not sure about the river, but the big body of water must be. several small lakes are froze over as of this morning. we were there duck hunting about three weeks ago and it was almost iced over that weekend. we were hearing ice crystals on the alluminum hull all the way across the lake. my guess is yes, but not safe ice yet. I dont think Itasca county has any safe ice yet. the temps are supposed to be cold at night but warm slowly through the week, with temps in the low fortys.
maybe two more weeks before we dare venture out?

Do you ever spear the Mississippi River Inlet?   We have speared there a few times and done well.

That use to be one of our hot spots. That spot always seemed to attract a lot of people and always somebody would end up with a nice fish.

Things also can get a little nuts with all the people and noise. Once had a couple of 4-wheelers buzz right by my fish.

I was leaving from shore one morning and found a trail of full beer cans leading out to the fish houses.
