The access and the roads are in really great shape and the perch and tullibees are finally really starting to bite. I have roads plowed out to all of my bug beds and the bite is really good right now for big tullies and some really nice perch. The really big 13 inchers are just starting to show up in much larger schools, so you will tie into some of them too. You will get plenty of perch in the 10 to 11 inch range and the tullies are almost 2 lbs. I had a chance to get out yesterday and got my limit of perch for the day in the 10 and 11 inch range and it started rite away in the morning from 7:30am until 10:00am and then again in the afternoon from 1:30 until about 4:30. I just made small moves thru out the day in the same area and was able to finish up with a dozen really nice tullies for smoking and some more really big 13 inch perch in the afternoon.

The tullies are hitting on small ice flies and ants with wax worms, the perch are taking a #3 Swedish pimple in the gold with the orange tape color or anything with gold on it. I was using a whole crappy minnow or just the head of a smaller fathead and some wax worms. The minnow heads were the best, but that can change from day to day. They are not messing around when they hit it either, it is bang and the fight is on. There are still some really nice walleyes out there also to catch and release. I had 3 that were over 24 inches in the morning. Sunny days seem to be the best days but they will be there even on cloudy days you just have to slow down the presentation and the lure sizes.

It was a gas catching those really nice perch and tullies and I was all by my self. There was not another soul to be seen for miles around. It was nice to see everyone else pulling their houses off the lake as I was catching fish, that doesn’t happen very often. Now it is time to hunt for the big perch. I was fishing out on the Second Reef and out on the #2 hump in 29 to 31ft of water where the silt transitions out into the muck. They are spitting up tons of bugs and i did have some of the 13 inch perch that had small minnows in their bellies when I cleaned them. They were all big and fat, especially the six 13 inch perch that I had. the walleyes that I caught were big and fat too for being this late in the season, they must still have plenty of feed out there to be so fat and healthy.

The pictures speak louder than words and I always have the pictures. I will make sure that the next time I go out I have someone with me with a camera. My digital one has been on the blink since last fall and I have not replaced it as of yet, so needless to say I have no pictures to prove it this time. You all know that now is the time to get the smaller rods and tackle out and hunt the perch with the Rockman, so give me a call @ 320 532 3431 and I will set you up on what to use and where the fish are as usual. I am going to be going out for the next 3 days or so hoping that we do not get a ton of snow next week because then instead of fishing, I will be plowing to keep the roads open.

I will be fishing as much as I can before I have to go and see the special, specialist about my foot on the 10th of March because it still has not grown any bone. I think I will be looking at another surgery in March so I am almost healed up and ready just before the opener. That is the report for this week and it is a good one, I had a great feeling earlier in the season that it was going to be a great perch bite after the season and it is, so don’t waste any time getting in on it while they are feeding on the bug beds.

Get ready to have a really good time catching big perch and tullies as they start their move towards shore and are feeding heavy on the bug beds, they are very hungry right now. We will have the Bar and Grill open for another couple of weeks and then we will shut it down and just be open for road passes. Patty needs a break from the cooking for a little while before we fire it back up for the fishing opener. I am and to say the bite is on, so you should be on the bite.

Went up on monday and "The bite is ... off" We went to 3 different spots and ended up with 4 keeper pearch. The fish we did get into were very small. Hopefully it turns arround soon. Last year arround this time we did very well out there. The roads were well maintained and the person at the bar was as helpfull as can be, but the fishing was not so good. Thank you for the good service!
