    • Fishing & Hunting South Dakota's Lake Oahe and Lake Sharpe
Fishing on Oahe on the lower end of lake still tough for walleye but good for northern/catfish and smallmouth bass for the few going out Salmon bite is mostly slow with 1 to 3 fish avg. catch. Most boat traffic is on Lake Sharpe from downtown Pierre to West Bend Area. I fished Dave Meyer, Mike Stedola and his boys from Des Moines, Iowa on the weekend. First day had a lot of wind so stayed on Oahe and caught 19 channel catfish, 4 northern to 19 lbs and one smallmouth. We lost several other big northern but had a nice day. Next day went to west bend on Sharpe and got 16 fish walleye limit and 25 smallmouth limit with 4 smallmouth over 18 inch slot. Caught these fish along edges of spawning beds in around 6 to 10 feet on bottom/bouncer minnows. Jigs/plugs also work. Next few days looks windy and rainy (typical spring weather) but will be on water so stay tuned for next report in a couple of days.
