   I will need about 150.   I'm sure I should have one on all my decoys.  When can we expand the program to have no texting, seat belt mandatory, use your turn signal stickers posted on the outside of our car?  I'm sure it would help with compliance.    

    The only logical explanation for this boondogle is somebody that makes stickers is either related to, or a big donator to some higher up that scored him a nice fat state contract.

Was at my local DMV this afternoon, license for the truck, fishing license and two invasive stickers, took about two minutes tops.

    Well before everyone take this too lightly concider this.  400,000  stickers have been printed to date.  Minnesotans have 800,000 registered water craft.  (Do some math here guys).  This does not include your swim rafts small kayaks and other water toys that will be need to be "sportin" an AIS decal.  The really interesting thing is the state held off on the second printing of 400,000 because they are concidering changing some of the rhetoric.  (Will that make the originals obsolete)?  This is regulation run amuck and should just be halted right now.  Call it a big mistake and drop it.

Cleaned the trailer off of an old invasive sticker that was on the winch support and placed the new little gray and black sticker on in it's place. Took the top part of the sticker and put it on the inside of the boat hull up towards the front. Might have spent 20 seconds or so doing it. Another yellow/black sticker that I got from the Sea Grant Program to remind about drain plug removal went on the back inside transom. I have a regular routine when launching and retrieving my boat which involves the drain plug and draining the live well. If I am reminded one time by the sticker then they serve their purpose. For myself and I am going to go out on a limb here and say thousands and thousands of others, it is no big deal.

Ok, I went to a DMV today.  I searched the lobby and all displays, I could not see a decal or anything related to it.  Not wanting to cut the line and ask an agent, I simply took my place in the queue (only 5 people to go).  I didn't check the time but I think it was over 15 minutes wait.  Anyway when I ask for these stickers, the agent gave me one.  I said I will need at least a dozen.  She then grilled me on why I owned so many boats at which time I said I had orders from neighbors and friends to get them if I could.  Reluctanly she gave me a dozen but it felt like I was ripping them off.  All things considered it went about like I expected.   
I am not against the idea, just the poor implementation of the decal deployment.  I can't wait to see where on the boat people put the decals.

     I hope it does remind you to put the plug in.  It is dumb that you can't transport a dry boat with it in.  If I am in enforcement and choose to pull your hatches or slide a mirror under your floor I will find water in your boat if you just took it off the lake.  Plug in or not.  If I am in enforcement and I don't like your attitude, your boat, or  even just be having a bad day, I will write you up. Heck I may even get a bonus for the tickets I write.    Thanks for giving me the opportunity though.    No big deal.  Just pay up.

All of us have a routine we go through when loading and unloading the boat.  those people who take the time will and those who don't won't...sticker or not.  Liberals are so ready to throw money out the window and not question why, it's rediculous.  Now according to DDS the idiots can't even agree on what the stickers should say.  Don't you think they should have gotten it right before printing 400,000?  Guess i could start selling Ocean front property here in MN.

   The sticker idea was started by lake associations.  If you can't read the writing on the wall it will be spelled out to you soon.  We do not want you on our lake.  Soon there will be gated accesses and restrictions on who can and can't put their boat in "OUR LAKE".  I'm pretty sure this is already being tossed around under the guise of invasive species.  Code word hassle them enough and they will stay away.     It's coming.   Just keep going along with the program.  Don't ask questions or complain.  Go through the roadside searches, the boat, bait inspections and the other ridiculous hoops that will be tossed your way.  It's no big deal.

   There was an article in Outdoor News this week. I tried to find it online but couldn't.  I am off today so I will get the info to you tomorrow.  I think it was Gary Clancy that wrote a little about how this sticker thing all started.

deadeye, what DMV did you go to. like i said yesterday i got a bunch and striaght from a display rack down in ramsey. and when i got my first one the gal there was awesome about it.

glenn57, I drove by the Ramsey DMV (I couldn't tell from HWY 10 if they were open) and went to the Elk River DMV.  They have them but they are behind the counter and you must ask for them.

Just when I thought I had them all covered, I remembered that last year I had to back my pickup out at least 20 feet into a lake to launch the boat.  This is a very shallow lake and there was open water between my front bumper and the shore.  Now, will I need to put a sticker on my PU?

Don't worry about that Bobby. I get visited by my friends every year up on Basswood. Thanks for thinking about me though.

I might add that they were a fine bunch of guys. One was forest service and two border patrol.

Just another thought about picking them up for buddies and relatives, The idea I think is that when you apply the decal to your boat or water craft that you understand why you are applying them. I doubt if you are educating your buddies before you give them the decal, you are just being helpful and saving them a trip. There is no perfect way for anything to work but I can see Wilds point of people grabbing a mess of them when a limited number have been printed.  Holy smoke, that is the second time this week I have agreed with Wild on something!

We all here on MNO because Why? Just to show I'm not wastefull, I need 5. Boat, two duck boats, canoe and argo type atv.  I got one for my daughters jet ski and one for my brothers boat.  I'm going on Thursday with my buddy to his lake place where he has a boat, two duck boats and a paddle boat.  Good lord, that does leave me one for my pickup.   

And yes, I do think it's funny.  Never though I'd get in trouble for taking too many free (required) decals.  Some of youse guys gotta lighten up a little.

   Let me see.   Boat, 3 duck boats, jet ski, 2 docks(don't forget about those) swim raft, boat trailer, truck, water tramp, fishing float tube, padddle boat, canoe  just to start.  I too have to put all 4 tires in the water to launch at one lake I will be fishing.  Add those up and it's not funny it is just plain stupid !!!!

New required aquatic invasive species rules decal for boaters now available
(Released April 5, 2012)

A new required decal is now available for Minnesota boaters to help remind them of the state’s aquatic invasive species laws, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) announced today.
The free decals are available at:

■DNR offices.
■Deputy registrar offices where licenses are sold.
■Large sporting goods shops.
■DNR watercraft inspectors and conservation officers.
The decals will also be included in envelopes with new and renewal watercraft licenses mailed from the DNR.

The decal should be attached to all types of watercraft including canoes, kayaks and duckboats before launching on, entering into, or operating on any Minnesota waters.

The two-piece, gray-and-black decals detail new state laws that watercraft users must follow in order to avoid spreading aquatic invasive species such as zebra mussels, Eurasian watermilfoil and spiny waterfleas.

The decal must be attached to the watercraft, but state law does not specify where that must occur. DNR officials recommend displaying it where it can be read and can be shown to an officer upon request. However, the decal does not need to be in view of the operator (as is the case with the state’s personal watercraft decal), and it does not need to be placed near the watercraft registration decals.

If a watercraft owner does not want to stick the decal on the boat because it is an antique wooden boat or other unique boat, the decal can be attached or laminated to an object like a luggage tag and kept in the boat.

There are two parts to the decal. Watercraft owners and operators must display the top portion of the decal on all watercraft prior to launching on, entering into, or operating on any waters of Minnesota.

The second portion of the decal is intended to be placed on the winch post of watercraft trailers or in another area to remind boaters to remove the boat’s drain plug when leaving a water access area as required by state law. It also reminds boaters to replace the plug before launching. This decal is not required by law.

There is no penalty in effect, but conservation officers can issue a warning for not displaying the decal. After Aug. 1, 2014, it will be a petty misdemeanor for boaters who fail to display the decal on their watercraft.

    It doesn't.  It also does not mention water skis, ropes, anchors, swim rafts or paddle boats either.  Those things will be left to the discretion of the ticketing officer I'm sure.  None of it matters until you have to pay for the ticket in 2014.
