Electric fillet knives

  I used one for the first time this weekend.  I now see it as a must have.  I did a little research and found several options.  Rapala has a new cordless rechargeable battery model.  The reviews were quite polarized.  They run about 100$.  It seemed everyone liked they until they had a problem.  They could get about 20 fish out of a charge.  The customer service was pretty universally disappointing if a problem occurred.  They also have a model that has a 12volt adapter.  The one I used was a Mister Twister.  It was an older model but brand new.  The handle was a little bulky but worked great. 

  Anyone have any personal experience with electric fillet knives they would like to share?

Yes, and they work great.  I was surprized.

My first electric fillet knife ever purchased was a Mister Twister. At the time they worked well for me. As the aging process took place it was time for a new one. So, I went to Mister Twister once again. Unfortunately it wasn't the same performer as the last one .  The newer Twister would start to smell like overheated wiring or the motor failing. I later found out that someone else new was building the MR. Twisters and they were all crap. Next I bought the Rapala electric and I found that to be the worst pricey knife ever. What a piece of crap! I couldn't find my receipt to return it.

Being the slick operator that I am,  I had to figure out a way to come out on top without my receipt. If I'd buy another one and and just return the bad one with the receipt from the new one that would work. Unfortunately Rapala was smarter than me.  When I got to Gander Mountain and saw the same model knife it was in a different color case and the knife was also different color.

I wasn't about to get stung with a second purchase of a Rapala knife. Therefore, I purchased an American Angler over at Cabala's. It was a door buster special purchase first come first serve limited offer. Once again being a person of superior intelligence   I had to figure out a way to obtain one of the first come first serve limited offer knives. I contacted a bud that works there and he stashed one for me because I was not to be denied.   I was soon the proud owner of an American Angler knife. I already know what you guys are thinking. "it won't fillet fish well".   Just for the record if that's what your thinking your wrong!

Being anxious I sat down at the kitchen table and assembled it for a quick dry run. Man "O' Man this thing started to vibrate and grind like you wouldn't believe. What the *+*#^! another pile of crap.   It would only run if you tilted your hand in the exact right angle. Just what I needed a fillet knife with a "G" spot! Refund counter here I come.

To make a long story short (to late for that) I am now back to a Mister Twister because they are cheap and I throw them away when they die.

I still like a blade but my neighbor at Leech that owns Bayside resort, cleans so many panfish a year all he uses is a Black and Decker electric bread knife..$15 at wallyworld  he cleans up to 1000 fish a week some times.  Throws away when they quit. They do work just fine...

I find that if I let the wife clean the fish and hit her with the stun gun from time to time she makes quick work of the days catch, does that count as an electric fish cleaner?

   All very good information.  Bobby's technique is out of the question because it would involve getting married again. 

   After further review I will go the Black and Decker route.  They are actually  $12.97 at Wally world.  Many favorable reviews.  I will have the mister twister at my disposal as well so I will do a side by side comparison next week.  I think it would make a good video. A 12 volt battery could be used with a power inverter that I already have so that won't be an issue.  Some of the knives advertise both 12 volt and 110 but require an additional purchase of a plug.

i use the rapala one now... after years of watching my friend use one and me still with the blade saying, oh, i can do it just as fast, ect.. ect..

well... i switched and best move ever.

  Of course you do have to catch fish in order to have some to clean

   I picked up the Black and Decker today.  I plan to give it a workout this weekend.  Anyone curious about electric knives should check out this video.   You will learn how to remove y bones out of a pike too.
