I think all that stuff they sell to mask your scent is bull. Tonight I took a scent free shower. Put on clothes that were washed in scent free stuff. Then used my scentlocker suit that I also sprayed down. Then slipped on the knee high ruber boots that I sprayed also. Was sitting up in the stand and a 6 pointer came out and stood broadside about 25 yards away for a while. Then the wind switched and he looked my way and off he went. Wasn't going to shoot him any ways. Then some more came in and the wind was swirling again. Looked my way and off they went. Doesn't matter what you do, they will smell you.

The scent free stuff does work to a extent. Atleast thats what i believe. I do all of the actions mentioned above. I like my scentblocker clothing because it does work to a point. It's real comfortable and I like the camo pattern. I also don't get dressed until im parked where I'm gonna walk in. Nothing with any sort of scent touchs my hunting clothes. I drench myself with the scent blocker scent killer. But wind will always be a factor, so I hunt high up to dispurse any scent that is coming from me.

I agree. Pretty hard to fool the nose of a deer. Although scentoc did just win their lawsuit.  Swirling wind sucks.

i think it's mostly bunk to sell more product and make people think they have an advantage. maybe on a calm night or a light wind.. but with what's out there today I don't think anythign would help. one of the best deer I ever got was opening morning in wi.. we were in a new spot and my bubby left me with his truck to drive a logging road I've only driven once before to a stand I set up when the sun was going down. well.. needless to say I passed it.. in the process of turning around one of the straps busted on his 4 wheeler in the back.. when I took off down the road again I had a polaris anchor on it's side behind the truck... well I up righted it and in the process I covered myself in gas.. sun was already up, I would have went back to the house had I not been covered in gas.. didn't want to soak his seats or stink up the truck. so I shedded a few layers and sat in the stand.. 20 minutes latter.. nice 8 came in.. thought with the way the day was going I had to take him.. so I did.  the wheeler fired right up once I found the key, besides some road rash it was fine.

I think that it is all a ploy to get people to waste money, but it's your money and who am i to tell you how to spend it.  I don't use any of it and just hunt the wind.  I have stands for all wind directions that I hunt.

It's all about perspective.  I have two little ankle biters that come with me to the lake of no fish.  They will wake up after a 2.5 hr drive from a sound sleep when we get within 1 mile of the place.  These are little dogs not blood hounds.  Windows up, winter, summer. it doesn't matter  Best bet is to play the wind.

you cant make a turd smell pretty but you can dampen/mask the stink a bit. when i first started hunting we did no scent control. i would always have deer snorting at me without even seeing them. now its been years since ive heard a snort unless ive spooked them. so i think instead of a deer knowing bob is sitting 20yrds that way and he had eggs and waffles for breakfast they might think you are 100 yrds away or had been through the area.

if a deer ran away every time it smelled any bit of human they would never stop running. in my experience it usually takes 2 of their senses before they will run or an absolute like seeing you or or getting a big wiff of hunter butt-air. so i will always take steps to watch my scent but never go too overboard to turn hunting into work. lets face it hunting is for enjoyment so to each their own but when it becomes too much work and money, i try to relax a bit and just enjoy being out chasing tails!

With all the stuff I've done before and while on a deer stand the experts would wonder how I've ever killed a deer. Between going to the bathroom, eating, smoking, farting and burping up the food and bevie's enjoyed the night before, etc, etc. you name it I've probably done it short of letting off a stink bomb. Deer are inquisitive and wary altogether. If something smells different they can either be alarmed or interested. It's a toss up. My .02.

just curious how many people have killed a mature buck (outside of the rut) that smeared fat guy sweat on them and the buck was down wind? sure there are lots of dumb deer, iv seen them jump off bridges. usually the big ones are big for a reason.

now a real ploy/ waste of money is the ozone scent eliminators... these are supposidly just short of a big garbage bag with a breathing straw (with filter mind you). :blablabla:

i say everyone has a shot at seeing a deer by just being in the woods, but there are measures you can take that will help your odds. lets face it, its 99% luck out there by why not count the cards?

the natives used smoke as a cover sent. It make total sense to me as this is somthing they smell all the time. How far smoke and smell travel.many many miles. scoutting, stand placement ,wwind ,noise every thing come into play.I use a small bottle called buck scent for years. Both ten pointers I shot I was walking into the wind still hunting. The small buck I shot with my bow I was smoking a smoke and had to put it out.I was 6 feet off the ground again playing the wind

Well Steve I just killed one this year down wind minus the fat guy sweat.  No cover scent, no expensive clothing (however the blue jeans I was wearing were $40), no special washing detergent, no special bar of soap, no special deodorant, etc.  It crossed downwind, stopped, looked at me, the end.  Again I say it's your money spend it how you choose.  Myself personally like some of the camo patters on scentlok stuff but I'd save the $200 to just have the pattern instead of the scentlok.

The last 3 days out I have done just that, right before i go out I have stood in camp fire smoke and then I put a few more logs on the fire to last another 45-60 min and I have been going to my blind that is down wind.  I have had a big body small antler 6, a spike and aton of doe's get within range and they all come from down wind.  None of my friends wear anything fancy or use scent cover and a fair amount of them have shot deer this year, I don't know what there wind conditions were but I honestly think that stuff is gimmicky.  my 2 cents

like stated before it works to a point. hunting high and the wind is the only sure way to get away with it.ive had countless deer right under me and mill around for over a hour with a swirling wind, and never got busted. but to think you can get away with  :censored: your pants in the stand is just dumb.

the guy that hit a deer yesterday with his semi hadnt showered for a week, and his truck hadnt been washed for a year.   guess cover scents really are just a waste of money :doah:

anyone wanna take bets if someone could shoot a deer while playing hammertime on their phone? i bet its possible. me and my dad had 2 yearling bucks walk up to us while we were hanging a stand one year in plain clothes making all kinds of noise and with a wheeler there too.

The key point here is "yearling bucks".  They will do just about anything to get shot.
