Walleye numbers fall to lowest level in 40 years on Mille Lacs

Walleye numbers in Lake Mille Lacs -- the state's most popular walleye fishery -- have fallen to their lowest level in 40 years, and officials aren't sure why.

besides the tribal harvest the slot limits stress and kill alot of fish. More so than just catch dinner and get off the lake would.

Yeah, the tribal harvest #'s are the second lowest since they started in 1999,last year was the lowest, forget the exact # but a couple 1000lbs less. Its mind boggeling our folks won't step in before its to late, seems we need our lakes to collasp completely like red lake before our dnr steps in,then they'll call on the tax payers to bail the lake out while the tribe waits on shore with their gill nets, its time to hold the 8 tribes netting accountable and its way past due to cut...well I'll leave it at that. Its a shame our dnr won't call it what it is and worry about hurting the natives feelings.

As a last ditch effort by our dnr, just wait, any bets on another daily limit change and reduced slots? That is,just for us non-native license buying tax paying sportsmen/women.
