BBD there is no always for  deer or on anything as far as that goes. Most definately what you witnessed is the norm. It correlates the same way with humans. If you see a hot chick at a bar or on the beach there are alot of guys that take interest. She will chose who will accompany her which is usually the most fit. The other blokes are either waiting in the dark for their opportunity or tagging along for second chance.
