Other states allow them during their bow seasons.  How much longer before MN allows them?

I believe it will happen as the archery group is a small group and there are a lot of people that would love to hunt a longer season without having to practice a lot.  The xbow industry has deep pockets and they see this as a way to increase their profit margins.   The archery hunters are a vocal group and will fight the addition of the xbow to their season so it will be a tough battle but I feel it isn't a matter of if but when it will happen.

I used to be on the "We Bow hunters are untouchable" view of things until I no longer could hunt with one and saw the light.  I have a special permit and use a crossbow.  I however have a different view now. 

1. Your tag is only good for one deer (other areas are different)who cares how the deer is obtained. (for this group I'll add in I don't mean using land mines, tanks, or pickup trucks, only legal means).

2. The season should be the same for everyone and you can choose what method (gun, bow, xbow) you want to use.  Stop with all the different seasons.

Money Talks look how muzzle loading has changed! Bottom line I feel is that Has to more about the art of the Hunt and the ethics about how. Not the if its brown its down just my 2 cent

the reason for different seasons is because even though about 500,000 or so tags may be issued they wont be filled. if you gave gun hunters 3 months to hunt we would have a lottery system just to be able to hunt deer. i cant talk as far as advantages of crossbows but know they have come a long ways. i say lets have a season but dont think it could or should be the same as archery.

I have a group of friends who have hunted with xbows for 5 years and stopped after losing too many animals. They have all gone back to bows and guns. When I asked them what they thought was happening they were all in agreement that the xbow was too fast and powerful. They would make good engine room shots but would never find the animals be it moose or deer. The holes they made with them were so small and cut so fine that they would seal up when passing through if they didn't hit anything to make the animal bleed out internally or rupture something. Just passing on info from trusted sources.

I have been using a xbow and shot 2 deer and they went down within 40.  Your friends either made poor shots or the equipment is much better now.  Take a look at the entry hole on the deer i post in the form.

Give every one a month.  No need for bow hunters including myself to have three months plus.

agreed most people dont need 3 months but for people like me who can only hunt 2-3 weeks out of that we like to actually be able to hunt too. i know a lot of people that juggle work kids and school that cant hunt every night during the regular season.

if i only had 1 month i might be apt to shoot one of those 1.5 year old bucks i been passing on

Steve I'm just like you and hunt mostly just on weekends and an evening once during the week if I'm lucky.

I only have one weekend to git er done...If I weren't such a die hard at duck hunting, I'd complain, but I go deer hunting for the meat and duck for the enjoyment. Back in Canada we had 2 full months ((gun season) archery started a month earlier aswell) to bag our moose and deer which was great because you never felt "under the gun" to get your stuff done quickly.

I understand your point but you might be surprised at the amount of space in that area on a deer and especially a moose where an arrow can pass through without hitting a damn thing.

Very true FR but it would be no different then with a bow like you stated above in regards to your friends going back to "bows and guns".
