We were having a discussion about what is an acceptable caliber to hunt fox and coyotes. It was brought up that a .17 HMR is good enough but I'm not sure I believe that, especially on  body shot. If a .17 is good enough what about a 22 mag then? Whats everyone elses thought on this?

.223 is the only thing I use on Predators. I don't have to worry about taking a body shot if that's the only shot I am given and the hole isn't that much bigger in the pelt. IMO

I like .243 paired with varmint grenades. small hole going in and no exit holes

I've used a 17 on about a dozen yotes and it's ok to about 150 yards and it puts them down.  The other weapon i use is a 243 with hornaday 58 grain

I have used .223, .22-250, and .243, I own a .17 HMR but I don't think I would use it on coyote or fox.  I have seen too many coyotes lost even after putting multiple good body shots on it from a .223
