    • Fishing & Hunting South Dakota's Lake Oahe and Lake Sharpe
I guided the Joe Cox group from around the KC area for one day down on the Big Bend on Sharpe. It was very windy with solid 5 foot seas so even though they got limits of nice 17 inch avg. size walleye they earned them. We caught these fish mostly on spinner/crawler rigs in 5 fow to 20 fow, I then spent 3 days with John Hansen, Wayne Labart and Chuck Holsapple all from the Bellevue Ne. area. We fished all three days on Lake Oahe and they took home their possession limit of 72 walleye plus some smallmouth bass. We spent most of the time using bottom/bouncer rigs with either night crawlers, minnows or gulp minnows/worms. Most of the fish were caught in 10 fow or less but we did catch some out to 17 fow in the afternoon. We managed to get all of their over 15 inch fish each day along with all of the under 15 inch fish but over 20 inch fish were hard to come by. I think this is because there are so many smaller walleye in the lake they just beat the big guys to the bait. These guys were a real class act and I was lucky to have them book another trip with me so I will get to take them fishing again. The spawn the year of the flood (3 years ago) must have produced a near record spawn as the lake is full of that year class fish. It has been a very tough spring as far as the weather go's with a lot of windy colder days but the last three days have shown improvement. Fishing especially for numbers of walleye is excellent on Oahe all the way up to Mobridge and all of Sharpe as well. The smallmouth are spawning in some area's so numbers right now are a little off. Northern are common in most bags. Salmon fishing is very spotty. There is a lot of boat traffic especially on Oahe and every one is catching fish.
