 :coffee: .....
During my 3rd trip on the water in my new Nitro, I noticed the yellow direction-indicator arrow on my MinnKota Maxxum 24v./70 lb trolling motor wasn't turning. Upon further investigation I saw the underside of the head was cracked where the shaft is inserted into the underside of the head. Nice!! So when I got home, I called my dealer. He in turn e-mailed me a copy of the notice they recieved from MinnKota about the head cracking (even had photo's of a cracked unit) that matched the cracks on mine. Apparently, MinnKota has issued a notice to dealers that they found fault in the plastic that came from their manufacturer. Rather than the plastic being made "unbreakable", it came out "brittle". It apparently is occuring on several models. Any bouncing or stress on the head will result in cracks to the base where the shaft is inserted. SO....any of you loyal readers who recently purchased NEW MinnKota bow-mount trolling motors, tune your attention to the underside of the head and watch for cracks developing around the screws that hold the shaft into the underside of the head. Call the MinnKota customer service number on their website and explain the problem. They will in turn ask for your zip code, and give you the names and phone numbers to the closest authorized repair shop.
