    • Fishing & Hunting South Dakota's Lake Oahe and Lake Sharpe
I spent an afternoon on Oahe with some fellows from the wheat growers group and then spent two days on Sharpe guiding first Pete Derksen and his boys from Blackhawk SD and then repeat customers the Jim Beck group from around Omaha NE and had a real good time with all of these guys. The fishing on Oahe is still a lot of smaller walleye with a few big ones once in a while. We did stay in 20 to 30 fow on Oahe catching some little fish so maybe more of the walleye are starting to come up out of the deep. On Sharpe I fished east of Pierre and tried to stay a head of the main batch of boats however especially on the weekend boats are scattered all over. Fishing is good on Sharpe and although the 15 inch minimum size limit is back on we had no trouble getting limits for both groups. In fact with throwing some fish under 16 inches back we managed to keep a 17 inch average size walleye stringer both days. We fished in 8 fow to 12 fow both days using spinners/crawlers or gulp on plain hooks with bottom bouncers. Both days we were limited out around noon and fished for fun until the heat set in. It is very good to get your limits in the boat as early as possible as if they run too much or no current the bite gets tougher and hot weather has been around again. It makes getting off the lake before the afternoon high temps set in a good choice. Lots of water/fly bug repellant and sunscreen should be in your boat.
