I got to my first stand sat. morning and as the sun came up I saw 2 grouse roosted in a tree 30 yards away. After they flew away a caught movement from behind a log.  It looked like a very shiny black cat.  Then it stepped out in the opening.  It was a pine martin.  It was a first for me. As the sun cleared the horizon I was treated to this view.

After a late breakfast I headed out to a different stand.  The view at this stand was pretty darn good as well.  At 4 the first deer showed up by running a half circle around me and stopped right behind trees and then walked straight away. The next deer was a small buck that needed 3 more years.  15 min later a button buck feed around me for 20 min while his mother stayed well outside of bow range.  At about 5:30 I heard the steady crunching of leaves headed in my direction on a trail that would pass directly down wind of me.  It was a basket 8 pointer.  He got to about 10 yards away and about turned himself inside out trying to swap ends and exit post haste. The last deer of the night stepped into a shooting lane 25 yards away perfectly broadside and stopped to pose and look the other way.  I wasn't sure if it was a small buck or a doe so I elected to pass on the chip shot.

Sunday morning came with a different wind direction so I headed to a 3rd stand.  As I was on my way to the stand in the dark I had to walk around 4 or 5 freshly downed trees across the trail. Dang beavers. As I was climbing the tree I saw several flying squirrels launch themselves out of the stand. Cool little guys.  The sun brought the best views yet. Didn't see any deer but that was ok with me.  This is what I call therapy.

Dang right.  The land owner is also known by most people in the country as being a a pretty darn good shot as well as being a great guy.

Hunting is not life and death. It is more important than that.
