So either you haven't read the rules, don't understand the rules, or a rule change is needed.  Because from what I read you need to upgrade one of Lentz's 3 posted fish with a bigger fish in one of the three categories.

So either you haven't read the rules, don't understand the rules, or a rule change is needed.  Because from what I read you need to upgrade one of Lentz's 3 posted fish with a bigger fish in one of the three categories. 

The total length will win the contest. Example a 16" panfish and a 26" Walleye and a 40" Northern gives you a total of 82 inches. Anyone on your team can upgrade your catch, say you catch a 24" walleye and a team member later catches a 30" fish. Your 30" fish will now be your top entry for walleyes for your team. Ideally each team member would qualify a fish.  NO TEAM MEMBER MAY HAVE MORE THAN 2 SPECIES AS THE TOP FISH FOR THEIR TEAM. THIS IS A TEAM EVENT SO THE OTHER TWO MEMBERS WILL BE RESPONSIBLE TO SCORE THE 3RD SPECIES.   Just like last year.

 Nothing in the rules says it has to be an upgrade to score.

Guess DDS needs to weigh in on this, my understanding of the rules is that one member can not score all three fish in the challenge, at most they may score two fish with the third needing to be posted by a teammate.  If a teammate was to catch a larger northern that would up grade the current northern and take it place. There fore the team would now have fish in three categories by two different team members. If a team member was to post a fish that is not an up grade it would still count for the team total as it is a legal fish for the challenge and would take the place of the third fish category. We now have three categories filled with three fish caught by two teammates on the same team.

In fact in the rules it says it has to be an upgrade.  However I don't disagree with it being the way you think it is.  Even in the example it has a walleye being a larger walleye.

I quoted the rules, not something in smack or in the post your fish string. the walleye example is actually borrowed from the summer fishing changle where the only two fish can be posted by one angler is not in effect.

last year I had to remove a fish because I had all 3 top fish for my team.  We did still win with the lower number but it was closer because of it.

That's says to me that it has to be an upgrade in order to replace one of the three fish already scored by your team member.

Just change the rule to if your partner doesn't score another fish and all is good.  But as it reads now it has to be an upgrade per the rule.  Doesn't really matter anyway I'm sure weldgasman will actually get out and fish.

if the upgrade wording means you can only upgrade a posted third fish that at the end of the contest will not count because you can only score two fish for your team then why would you even post any of your fish till the last day of the challenge.  by waiting you allow your team to talk to each other and decide what three post to fish.. That just not make any sense

OK so now I am curious about this controversy regarding the third fish. I always thought that it's simply a matter of a team putting together their best 3 fish, but only 2 of them can be caught by one of the team members. Am I missing something? Therefore it is potentially a bit of a puzzle figuring out the best combination at the end of the contest.

The third fish does not have to be an upgrade.  It just has to be a legal fish.  If none is posted by another team member the score goes to zero.  It would be an interesting twist though.     I will change the wording tomorrow.  I just got home from a couple of days on the "Lake of no fish" and had no internet access.  Good news is the Lake of no fish has good ice.  The bad news is the heater in the house is  ed !!  Too cold to even try to repair.

  I finally got on the ice this last week.  The trip was about as difficult as I could have imagined.  After spending an entire morning getting the house out of the woods.  20 inches of snow and a fallen tree across the road could not stop me.  Put the house on the lake and the auger wouldn't start.  I took it back to the cabin and got it started.  I tried to start the heater and that didn't work.  Used a buddy heater as a back up but could not get the temp above 0 the first night.  I did catch two upgrades for my team but it was too cold to get a picture.  They would have only given my team 2 more inches so I did not even try.  The next day I banked the house and used the buddy along with two propane lanterns and was able to get the temp up to 40 degrees.  Not enough to slow down the ice forming in the holes but enough so I deal with it.  Fish were actually biting pretty good from 4- 5:30 pm and from 7am until 8:30.  Sat night was very slow.  I caught one pike and had two misses.  Sunday 33 below in the morning.  I did not go out.  

    I saw on my facebook page one of my partners has a nice walleye coming.  I am glad I didn't bother getting a pic of mine.  Never the less,  team "Winter Storm is locked and loaded.  Prepare to

   Well the leader board is updated and it is very apparent the ice and weather conditions are reeking havoc on most teams.  The fist place team has had very little pressure on them since they took the top spot.   That is about to change.  Team "Winter Storm"   will be blowing by the leaders very shortly.

   The team of BBD, Boar, and Fawkinnae have not been able to post a legal fish yet.      You boys might as well  .  You can't  any lower than you are already.

We got rain up here yesterday, nice crust on the snow and getting on and off the ice is interesting

    The Duluth area really has had some tough weather the last couple of years.  The summer flood the early snow dump this winter.  You guys need a Indian summer in February to salvage any ice fishing.
