DULUTH AREA

Look for walleyes to hit minnows in 35 feet at Island Lake or Whiteface Lake in shallower water. Island also is kicking out good-sized crappies, most of which are suspended over 20 feet, and smallmouth bass on topwater baits. A few muskies have been caught with sucker minnows or topwater baits on the St. Louis River. On Lake Superior, lake trout and coho reports remain best from Silver Bay to Grand Marais in the top 50 feet of the water column. Bear baits are getting hit, especially with the cooler weather this week.

ELY AREA

Minnows are producing walleyes in 14 to 16 feet and northern pike in 16 to 23 feet at Burntside Lake. The weedlines on Big Lake are kicking out small walleyes, but Basswood Lake is producing bigger walleyes on minnows. Smallmouth bass continue to hit on the shorelines or reefs of most lakes and Burnstide is giving up an occasional lake trout over 60 to 75 feet.

GRAND MARAIS AREA

Minnows and crawlers are producing walleyes at Seagull Lake in 15 to 20 feet, Poplar Lake in 12 to 15 feet, McFarland Lake in 10 to 14 feet, and Two Island Lake in 12 to 17 feet. Northern pike action has improved with spoons or crankbaits at Devil Track Lake in 8 to 12 feet, Cascade Lake in 10 feet, and Elbow Lake in 6 feet. Smallmouth bass are hitting in 14 feet on Hungry Jack Lake and Crescent Lake in 6 to 10 feet. Look to Leo Lake in 12 to 17 feet or Trout Lake in 15 feet with crawlers for rainbow trout. Carrot Lake is giving up brook trout via Mepps spinners. On Lake Superior, lake trout are hitting spoons over 120 to 200 feet, but salmon action has been limited.

MORA AREA

Hit the 6-foot weeds on Knife Lake and Fish Lake for sunfish, while crappies are being caught with plastics or minnows in 8 to 10 feet on Ann Lake and Knife. Trolling crankbaits during the evening hours on the weedlines, rock, or sunken timber on Knife and Fish has produced walleyes.
