The ice season is close, with some small bays and inlets beginning to freeze overnight!  In the meantime, some hearty anglers are still dressing for the cold and getting their limits of walleyes on the lake and river. Garden and Pine Islands have been producing in 20-25 feet jigging with a frozen shiner.  Walleyes are showing up in front of Zippel Bay, Long Point and Rocky Point as well.

On the Rainy River, 15-20 feet jigging with a minnow or frozen shiner best between the International Bridge heading north towards the Gap. From Clementson heading east, try 17-21 with a live minnow. Hot colors are orange, green, or gold. Some adjacent rivers and inlets are frozen or have frozen banks. Safety first!

Up at the NW Angle, a few hearty anglers still getting out.  The efforts are typically rewarded with good numbers of walleyes, crappies and mixed in pike.  Hard core muskie anglers are trolling and on fish.  One guide actually caught a big lake trout while trolling for muskies.  Act now to get your desired dates for ice fishing at www.LakeoftheWoodsMN.com/Lodging
