Low water=launch problems

  Many public accesses in the Bemidji area and across most of the North Country are low enough to potentially present some problems for anglers trying to launch their boats on the opener.


Anglers with large boats on bunk-style trailers usually have the most difficulty with low water conditions. The bunks on the trailer have to get into deep enough water to float the boat off the bunks, hopefully without getting the truck tires wet.

Boats on roller-style trailers can launch in shallower water than bunk trailers, because the boats can be pushed off the rollers without being totally immersed into the water.

It is hard to know exactly how much the lakes are down, but going by the way the accesses look, it would take a considerable amount of rain to get the lakes back to normal before the opener.
