Walleye working group appointed; first meeting Tuesday

ST. PAUL — Gov. Mark Dayton and legislative leaders appointed members of a working group on the Mille Lacs walleye shortage in time for its first meeting Tuesday.

 



Speaker of the Minnesota House Rep. Kurt Daudt, R-Crown, and Senate Majority Leader Tom Bakk, D-Cook, announced their choices and Dayton's in a release Monday.

Rep.Tom Hackbarth, R-Oak Grove, and Sen. David Tomassoni, D-Chisolm, will serve as co-chairs. Chief Executive Melanie Benjamin will represent the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe.

Gov. Mark Dayton appointed a number of his cabinet members to the group, including Commissioner Cynthia Bauerly from the Department of Revenue, Commissioner Myron Frans, Management & Budget, Commissioner Katie Clark Sieben, Employment & Economic Development, Commissioner Tom Landwehr, Natural Resources.




Tourism officials include Karen McQuoid, member of Mille Lacs Area Tourism Council, and John Edman, Director of Explore Minnesota.




The meeting will take place at 3 p.m. in State Office Building Room 10 and will be open to the public.
