Seniority does not keep your job in sports, performance does. Cullen's replacement is 7 years younger and is listed as a tight end. Don't wave Cullen goodbye just yet, he is well liked by management and if he does not get picked up he may just find a job with the Vikes.  Cullen was earning a mil a year and McDenott is earning 600k not a real big savings there.  :coffee:

Just goes to show you that wearing a three piece suit and living in a Holiday Inn Express does not really make you a role model. :doah:

I learned my lesson years ago in regards to the Vikes. On Sunday afternoons I am off fishing or bird hunting, the woods and lakes are quiet and I just listen to the game on the radio if I am in the boat. Much better time spent then watching them on TV. Come November then I will sit down and watch but usually not before then.

:reporter; ... NFL Power Rankings 2015: Week 1

25. Minnesota Vikings (0-1, Previously #16) - Teddy Bridgewater looked more a rookie week 1, than he did all of last year.  The 49ers brought pressure and he didn't respond well.  Good news, AP is back!  Oh wait, he got shut down, too.  I don't think they are as bad as they played, but man did they play poorly.

28. Chicago Bears (0-1, Previously #28) - Lost to Green Bay at home, with a score closer than the game was, thanks to a last minute TD.  Jay Cutler completed 50% of his passes and threw 1 INT to go along with a TD... not a great confidence building performance for a QB who might be running out of chances at proving he can be top level.  Matt Forte had a hell of a game, but his talent alone isn't enough to make this team decent.

1. Green Bay Packers (1-0, Previously #3) - Went to a divisional rival and got the job done.  Aaron Rodgers made James Jones (who was cut by two other teams this off season) look like a pro-bowler, and the defense made Jay Cutler look like the bad version of Jay Cutler.  With the other top teams failing to get it done, Green Bay moves to the top of the list.

15. Detroit Lions (0-1, Previously # 13) - They lost a close one to a good San Diego team, blowing a 2nd quarter 21-3 lead by giving up 30 unanswered points.  After both sides of the ball put together a solid first half, they failed to keep it up in the 2nd.  The first half proved just how good they can be, the second just how bad.  The talent level is obviously there, but can they put it together for full games at a time...  Why start now?

Black Lives Matter plans to shut down light rail before Vikings opener :banghead:

9/18/15

 :bonk: .....
ST. PAUL - Black Lives Matter St. Paul is planning a “shut down action” along the light-rail line in St. Paul before the Minnesota Vikings home opener in Minneapolis on Sunday.

The group announced on Facebook Thursday that it plans to interrupt light-rail service at a gathering beginning at 9:30 a.m. Sunday at the TCF Bank location at Lexington Parkway and University Avenue.

Green Line trains between downtown St. Paul and Minneapolis run along University Avenue and stop on the University of Minnesota’s Minneapolis campus, where the Vikings will be playing at TCF Bank Stadium. Game time is noon.

The group said it would show support for Marcus Abrams, a 17-year-old with Asperger’s syndrome who was forcefully arrested by Metro Transit officers Aug. 31 at the Lexington Parkway station. Abrams, who was injured in the arrest, and his mother will be present, the group said.

A Metro Transit spokesman said the agency has successfully dealt with similar demonstrations on the light-rail line and plans to ensure that it can deliver the services riders expect Sunday. Still, riders are advised to keep tabs on the situation that morning and allow extra time for their trips.

We already have an over crowded jail system.  The train operator should speed up.  Plus it would thin a few off the welfare system.

          Take the Vikings quiz

Yes, it’s that time of the year. Get out the bag of chips, heat up the grill, put some soda or beer on ice, call over the neighbors, put on your Viking horns and get ready for the MINNESOTA VIKINGS.

Most of us have a love-hate relationship with the Vikings. We love them when they win and when they lose, well, we begin to look for housing in Packerland. It is a strange phenomena when you think about it. It is just a bunch of big boys who are paid lots of money for trying to carry a ball across a line. And we thought the events that took place in the Roman Coliseum were crazy!

Nevertheless, just to ensure that you merit watching the Vikings, I have prepared this short quiz. There are three levels. Let’s call the easiest level: “Who is Adrian Peterson?” The second level is: “Who is the coach of the Vikings?” The third level is: “What is the name of the new Viking stadium?”

Level one

1. Who is Adrian Peterson? A. a running back; B. a quarterback; C. a Texas rancher.

2. Probably the most famous player to play for the Vikings is: A. Bud Grant; B. Fran Tarkenton; C. Kirby Puckett.

3. While the new stadium is being built, the Vikings are currently playing in the: A. Sanford Center; B. Target Field; C. TCF Bank Stadium.

4. Which one of these players is in the Pro Football Hall of Fame? A. Alan Page; B. Teddy Bridgewater; C. Harmon Killebrew.

5. Before training in Mankato, the Vikings trained in: A. St. Cloud; B. St. Paul; C. Bemidji.

6. The Vikings have gone to the Super Bowl: A. 4 times; B. zero times; C. 1 time.

7. The Vikings have won the Super Bowl: A. 4 times; B. zero times; C. 1 time.

Level two

8. Which coach had the most wins for the Vikings? A. Murray Warmath; B. Bud Grant; C. Tom Kelly.

9. Who is the current coach for the Vikings? A. Bud Grant; B. Mike Zimmer; C. Jerry Kill.

10. Who is the current quarterback for the Vikings? A. Teddy Bridgewater; B. Fran Tarkenton, C. Joe Mauer.

11. What was the name of the stadium where the Vikings first played? A. Metropolitan; B. Memorial Stadium; C. Target Field.

12. What name was given to the Viking defense in 1970? A. Purple Feeble Eaters; B. Purple People Eaters; C. Purple People Pansies.

13. Which Viking receiver’s wife starred in The Bill Cosby Show? A. Randy Moss; B. Ahmad Rashad; C. Stu Voight.

14. Which Viking was a Defensive Player of the Year? A. Chris Doleman; B. Alan Page; C. Jim Marshall.

15. Which NFL quarterback and Viking was the first to throw a touchdown pass to himself? A. Brad Johnson; B. Warren Moon; C. Norm Snead.

Level three

16. What is the name of the new Vikings stadium? A. Yankee Stadium; B. Twins Stadium; C. U.S. Bank Stadium.

17. Which team did the Vikings defeat in their first game of their first NFL regular season schedule? A. Lions; B. Bears; C. Beavers.

18. The very first coach for the Vikings was: A. Bud Grant; B. Norm Van Brocklin; C. Tom Kelly.

19. Which Viking holds the single season passing record for the Vikings? A. Fran Tarkenton; B. Tommy Kramer; C. Warren Moon.

20. Which Viking was the first to rush for more than 6,000 yards in a Viking uniform? A. Robert Smith; B. Chuck Foreman; C. Adrian Peterson?

21. How many touchdown receptions did Randy Moss make to set a single season reception record for a rookie? A. 20; B. 16; C. 17.

22. The first Viking to rush for more than 1,000 yards was A. Bill Brown; B. Adrian Peterson; C. Chuck Foreman.

Answers: 1. A, running back. 2. B, Fran Tarkenton. 3. C, TCF Bank Stadium 4. A, Alan Page. 5. C, Bemidji. 6. A. Four times. 7. B, 0 times. 8. B, Bud Grant. 9. B, Mike Zimmer. 10. A, Teddy Bridgewater. 11. A, Metropolitan. 12. B, Purple People Eaters. 13. B, Ahmad Rashad. 14. B, Alan Page. 15. A, Brad Johnson. 16. C, U.S. Bank Stadium. 17. C, Bears. 18. B, Norm Van Brocklin. 19. C, Warren Moon. 20. A, Robert Smith. 21. C, 17. 22. C, Chuck Foreman.

How did you do? If you had more than 16 correct, you can wear two Vikings horns. If you had between 11 and 16 correct, you can wear one Vikings horn. If you had less than 11 correct, you are undoubtedly smarter than the rest of us and should consider running for president. Go Vikings!

Before Vikings game, Black Lives Matter halts St. Paul rail

 :coffee: .......
Protesters from Black Lives Matter St. Paul halted light rail service along much of the Green Line Sunday morning, blocking train traffic and shutting down a few major intersections ahead of the Vikings home opener.

The group said the protest was in response to the forceful arrest of Marcus Abrams, a St. Paul 17-year-old with Asperger's syndrome who was forcefully arrested by Metro Transit officers Aug. 31 at the Lexington Parkway station.

That's where the protest started Sunday. Abrams and his mother were among the 80 people who marched onto the light rail tracks. Under police escort, the group walked west along University Avenue, making its way to a St. Paul police station on Hamline Avenue before returning to Lexington and University.

It began at 9:30 a.m. and finished at noon, when the Vikings game began.

Police shut down the surrounding streets, diverted traffic and moved with the protesters without incident. Metro Transit picked up light rail riders on buses and shuffled bus routes to avoid the affected areas.

Protesters chanted Abrams' name and slogans like "no justice, no peace, prosecute the police." Twice, they lay down on the rail tracks in a "die-in" to protest police killings. At another point, they joined hands and sang the gospel song "This Little Light of Mine."

Black Lives Matter organizer Rashad Turner said he was pleased with the turnout and the way the protest unfolded.

He said organizers didn't negotiate with police beforehand about where they'd be allowed to go, and thought officers might take a harder line on letting protesters on the tracks. He commended police for their hands-off approach.

"They're going to do what they do, and we're going to stick to our plans and keep things peaceful," he said.

Metro Transit spokesman Howie Padilla said the agency accomplished its goals of maintaining safety and continuing service during the protest.

"I think from our end, everything went well," he said.

A handful of would-be light rail riders showed up during the protest to find the trains shut down. Metro Transit announcements and staff directed them elsewhere.

Abrams addressed the protest crowd, saying he was coming home from work and "playing around" on the rail tracks -- something he said he'd seen others do without consequence -- when police confronted him.

The encounter turned rough, with officers taking him to the ground, he said. Abrams suffered two seizures, along with a split lip and cuts to his face.

"I kind of thought I was dead for 15 minutes," he said.

He was taken to a hospital and eventually released without charges.

His mother, Maria Caldwell, said his disabilities should have been apparent to the officers. She said police have yet to release surveillance video of the incident.

"It's 'to protect and to serve,'" she said, "not 'to protect and kill.'"

In a statement, Metro Transit General Manager Brian Lamb said "we understand and appreciate the concerns" surrounding Abrams' arrest.

He said the incident is under investigation and that Metro Transit can't discuss the details "until we have all the facts."

The agency is also exploring additional training to improve officers' interactions with people with disabilities, including autism (Asperger's syndrome is a disorder on what is considered the high-functioning end of the autism spectrum).

"All of us at Metro Transit are pleased to see today's protest was peaceful and that all involved remained safe," Lamb said.

A half-dozen counterprotesters also showed up Sunday, carrying an American flag, a Confederate flag and a yellow flag with a picture of a snake and the Revolutionary-era slogan "Don't tread on me."

They engaged in a few verbal exchanges with the Black Lives Matter group, although organizers of the latter implored supporters to ignore them.

Jason Thomas of Red Wing, one of the counterprotesters, said he objected to disrupting transit service for "a lot of innocent families just trying to enjoy the game" who "have nothing to do with Metro Transit."

Turner likened the protest to the Montgomery, Ala., bus boycott of the civil rights movement.

"We're going to continue to attack that money," he said, "because it's the only thing that makes them listen." :taz:

Well, it looks like the Vikes will be going down this week. With the news of Peterson out for this weekend with a neck injury. They will be scrambling for sure against the team with the top rated run defense in the NFL.

Looks like you boys will be getting a dose of reality this weekend
