 Roadside deer survey for northeast Lake Bemidji area

BEMIDJI -- To assess deer population levels within the northeastern part of Bemidji, as directed by the City’s Deer Management Plan, BSU students will be conducting an evening spotlight survey next week.

The survey will be under the direction of BSU professor Brian Hiller and take place, weather permitting, on four to six evenings between Oct. 26 and Nov. 6. The survey will be within the area generally bounded by Lake Avenue, Elliot Road, Tyler Avenue and Mill Street. A BSU vehicle will be driving at slow speeds shining a spotlight, according to a release from Beltrami County.
While the activity would normally be perceived as illegal, the county is asking people who witness survey activity to refrain from calling the Bemidji Police Department or the Beltrami County Sheriff’s Department and refrain from interrupting or otherwise disrupting the ongoing survey.
