Memories Of Back In The Day

For many years I've been guiding a pair of old timers on Lake Geneva. Roy and Tom had been buds since they were kids. Tom is no longer able to fish due to dementia and is now calling a nursing home in Kenosha WI. his permanent residents. Roy still books 2 trips every June along with his grandson. So, Roy contacted me to let me know that it was soon Tom's birthday and he planned to visit him on that date. I quickly started to search for some old photos that I might send to Roy to give to Tom on his birthday. I didn't know if old Tom would even be able to recall those times from back in the day.

Roy sent me a photo of Tom as he received his gift. Well Tom's memory seemed to snap back into place when he viewed his photos. Even if it was only a temporary situation It made me glad and sad. It's amazing how certain things can pop back into our heads as if it happened like it was yesterday. Most all of us have the ability to recall certain past events in our lives just as if it was yesterday. I think if it pertains to the outdoors we all have that instant recall button just waiting to be pressed.
