So a guy can buy tags for all three seasons and kill two does and one buck in different units correct? Or if its a "managed" two deer unit you can kill two does and kill a buck in the next unit over correct? The manual must be written by Liberals in the cities who have never hunted, it leaves SO MUCH room for argument.

Thanks Glenn, so you must only hunt a "lottery" unit then.

Say it's a managed area. So it's two deer. Two does or a buck and a doe. From what I understand if you fill out in a managed area the only other area you can shoot a deer is in a intensive harvest area. I don't think you can shoot a doe in a hunters choice area(1 deer either sex) then go to a lottery only area and whack a buck. But that's just how I understand them and yes I agree there rules are as clear as mud. I have this same problem because I bow hunt zone 601.(5 deer) and gun hunt with the family at our farm in a managed area.

:bonk: Well I killed a doe in a hunters choice unit with my gun tag and reported it. Can I still use my archery tag for a buck in a different hunters choice unit or not?? It seems yes by the book but now I have cousins on both sides who are residents telling me I cant. I know it has been ONE DEER in certain years past but I really think its ONE BUCK and up to 4 does if the separate units allow...  :bonk:  :doah:

Boils down to this.  One deer (buck or doe) can be tagged per hunter.  Regardless of where you hunt only one Buck can be tagged per hunter.  If you hunt in Managed area, you can tag a second deer but it must be a doe.  You can do this regardless of where you tagged your first buck or doe.

hunters choice 1 buck or 1 doe you choose, its only 1.deer in hunters choice. weather u tag archery rifle, or ML. 1 deer between the 3 lisences, al because they let peopl shoot up to 5 deer, then 3 then 2 now 1.

I understand that you can only kill one buck period, and one deer in a hunters choice unit. So I killed a doe in a hunters choice unit already but I can still Buck hunt with my archery tag in a different unit correct? It seems most MN deer hunters only hunt one specific unit so it really throws them for a loop whether or not you can legally hunt in other units.  :coffee:

If you tagged a doe in a hunters choice area, you can ONLY tag another DOE in a managed or intensive harvest area.  NO bucks for you. Your "choice" was to tag a doe so now if you wish to tag another deer, it must be a doe and in a managed or intensive harvest area.

Really? It doesn't say anything of the sort in the proclamation. Can I get a Warden on this question please?

So now you are telling me that I could have killed a doe in an intensive or managed unit and then went to a hunters choice unit and still kill a Buck? But not the other way around??

Over here our gov agency writes the deer proclamation up very clearly in 3 pages. And when they sell us a tag the tag is good for the sex listed never goes void. If MN is voiding tags they should tell you when you register the first deer.

The proclamation lists that everyone is entitled to their one buck regardless of the bag limit.

Ok I called and talked to a Supervising Lt Warden. He said I can still use my archery tag but it has to be in a "managed" unit and that I can still use it for a Buck since my first kill was a Doe in a hunters choice. I can not hunt any more hunters choice units or lotto units.

Im not going to spend the money but technically I could buy a muzzleloader tag and use it to kill a buck in a "managed" unit and then still use my Archery tag to kill a doe there since they are 2 deer units.

I hunt in a lottery area only.  I usually purchase all three licenses (bow, rifle and muzzleloader).  Being it's a lottery area, I can only tag one deer and it could be a doe if I was drawn.  If I tag a doe with my bow license, I can not hunt alone with bow, rifle or muzzleloader.  So, I simply don't shoot anything unless I am party hunting.  Last year I hunted all three and still had my tag on December 31st.  So far, I still have my tag (and doe permit) for this year.

yup its really quite the rigamorall to keep up on things thats why i choose to stay put in HC area cause ive no need to goanywhere else. it was nice when we were a two deer  area, i could doe hunt for archery, tag a doe l, but continue to hunt rifle and or muzzy for a buck or the other way around. imnsure it will get back to that
 some day.
