Governor's  :Deer: hunting Opener coming soon: Pequot Lakes, Breezy Point communities seek public involvement.

The moment 500,000-plus Minnesotans have been waiting for is soon to arrive as the state deer gun season will open Nov. 5.

The epicenter of excitement just prior to the opener will be in the communities of Pequot Lakes and Breezy Point, where the 14th annual Minnesota Governor’s Deer Opener will take place.

Check out the following schedule of events open to the public.

Thursday, Nov. 3

4 p.m. - Welcome to Camp Expo at Breezy Point Resort

 :Hunter:
Come to see various outdoor and hunting related booths and talk with those in the industry. This event is free. The first 200 people receive a free hat courtesy of Mills Fleet Farm. Those looking for business sponsorship opportunities can call Jenna Crawford at 218-568-8911.

Games, activities and fun for all ages
4:30 p.m. - "Welcome to Camp" Social begins (tickets required $35)

5 p.m. - Blaze orange photo. Show your true hunting colors and head on out to the blaze orange community photo.

4:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. - Expo and Bad Axe Award Competition - Free to the public. Grab a friend and enter the competition to test your skills at air rifle shooting, identifying various scat, tracks and hides, hometown trivia and much more! Winners get the coveted "Bad Axe" Award, the privilege to proudly display it for a year and the chance to take home the trophy again at next year’s event.

6:30 p.m. - Dinner and program begins. Includes one-time performance “Twas the Night Before Deer Camp.” Tickets are required and available at Brainerd/Pequot Lakes Chamber office or call 218-568-8911.

Saturday, Nov. 5

Deer hunting season begins -- 30 minutes prior to sunrise.
