My Dad use to eat all kinds of weird stuff when I was young. My buddy who is German for Deer Hunting each year makes a Great rack of ribs filled with sauerkraut and potatoes at the bottom of a big crock pot. I love the stuff and can't get enough but my wife and kids absolutely can't stand it. 

I'm becoming my Dad!

Seen / smelled blood sausage being made once when I was young & that was enough for me. Another to add to the list is headcheese. Mom still eats that.

About the only thing my folks (both cooked) made that I didn't care for was liver.  cooked with onions, cooked with bacon, didn't matter. 

I wasn't a big fan of the pine county venison either but it was edible.  Moose was better

And the winner HAS to be......from 1967......Asparagus Macaroni Loaf.....


Meat and bread weren't the only foods suitable for the loaf treatment. In 1968's Favorite Recipes of America - Vegetables, I counted four rings, eight loaves and a mold in its 370 pages. Since it's spring, I opted for the Asparagus-Macaroni Loaf.

In a double boiler, make a custard sauce with milk, Gruyere and eggs. While it cooks, line a loaf pan with frozen or canned asparagus spears and pimentos. Stir sauce into cooked macaroni and chopped asparagus.

Bake the hell out of it until it holds its shape and serve with Stellar Sauce -- cream of celery soup with melted Gruyere.

The sauce is pretty stellar. It's no small feat to be bland enough to drown out the taste of asparagus that's already been cooked down to the asparagus essence usually only available in urine. It also softens the blow of pasta that's turned into rubber.

In other words, it's a big rectangle of dry, chewy, overcooked macaroni that tastes the way pee smells after you've eaten asparagus. Being rectangular does not distract from this flavor, nor does it make it acceptable. It still smells and tastes like pee.

Seem to have a virus, and too much going on right now wearing out me body and me knob. Dealing with a bad "family issue",  holiday stuff, and best buddy of 35 yrs who's Mom just suddenly passed away, I'm very close to both. Trying to help another friend get thru some rough times...and getting things in order to help at the Salvation Army. Too much all at once. Doc said I'm spreading' it way too thin, gotta walk away from some of it, and just get some "me" time. Easier said than done. I'm not gonna whine on here about me. But... Maybe I DO need some sticks of cabbage...

Pretty slim pickings around here at the moment.   I haven't baked anything for Christmas, and nothing smoked either.   

The pies all went for thanksgiving and the eggs too.   Forecast doesn't look too bad though.   Have to put a few briquettes in with the tube to keep the eggs from freezing...

Thinking about maybe making Carnitas one of these days.  Still researching recipes.   I bet I could sous vide it to start, then crisp it up in a skillet.

I do have a spare nice, fresh Jalepeno I didn't use for my chili. I'll gladly trade ya for some real Christmas cookies. 
 I like to use that new Carne Asada Weber seasoning I found on my pork. It's soooo mexican with a hint of lime. Screw what Carne Asada means, too. I do what works well for me. Try some of this Del. Really. Best stuff I've had in years as far as mexican type seasoning. And I got it at Wallace-mart, home of the non-smurf.
