when you have to pull your boat over ice in the early spring.
If a gun kills people then I can blame a pen for my misspells?

It's usually around the middle to end of March when this happens, I kind of remember it being 2 weeks before URL is over with for the ice season. Typically URL is done in the first 10 days of April.

I'd go with the 3rd weekend in March to be safe.

first week in april.  check clemons resort website, they have good reports.  you really have to time it... can vary each year.  don't go up if the water is murky...  seriously, it's when you can first pull a boat accross the ice and get in there.  big heavy jig and look for any holes... most of the depth is going to be 13 feet.  if you find a deeper spot, anchor up river and cast into it.

Yep, we're right smack dab into the Rainy season right now.  Earlier some years, later others.
Here's what's happening today regarding ice conditions and ramps:

Weather is literally put a damper on us with periods of rain, nothing continuos, and cooler temps. Ice seems to be jamming up by Franz Jevne, stalling us again. Ramp conditions are as follows....Since Pelland is taking the big boats it very busy with little to no parking left. Manitou Rapids anglers with small boats that can be carried are launching there. When I just got to Franz Jevene anglers were launching small boats and following the shoreline east to the open water while others on the shoreline pondered doing the same. In the half hour I was there the boats that disappeared around the corner didn't come back so they must have got to the open water from Franz Jevne. As I left more anglers were putting in there small boats as well. Birchdale is holding strong (dang it). Still watching and still waiting.

I am praying for Birchdale a week from today :).

Lets hope she don't get too dirty this year.  I haven't done it for a while and am really hoping it works out this time around.  It sure is a blast catching those things ;D.
