Line type for rattle reels?

When we rented the house from cookie I think he had some Dacron line on his. Not sure and I think it was 10 lb test. Not to sure though.

i run eithe fly line or heavy dacron to a barrel swivel then 10 lb mono to hook.

this time of year, the major store have put it away, u can look but place like scheeles dont have out. infind mine at littlenharware store like hank, maybe home of economy, may fleetfarm might carry it.

This is a common question on lots of sites right now. Here's the stuff we use, around here anyway. It's such cheap stuff it doesn't even have a label or a brand name. It's usually just in a box on a bottom shelf or on a peg. Holiday gas station on Mill Ave usually has it if your near Brainerd.I think it was about $2.99 a roll, it's long enough 90% of the time but many back it with cheap dacron or anything you have leftover in case you hook a wild northern.

yup thats the stuff i use also, its a roll of abiut 75 ft, but i ad anothe 5 ft of mono, more than enough, but lime ya said,  a crazy nord can quickly spool ya.

I usually back it a little with cheap dacron or any heavy line I have leftover.

I'm assuming a guy is going to need a swivel between this line and the mono.  My question is what type of knot is best to use with this stuff?

yes, i mentioned that in my first post, ive no problem just using the fishermans knottt on the fly line, just takes 4 wraps and thru the whole with an assist to tighten it down.

If you use the fly line they make an eye that you insert into the fly line. It has several barbs on it so it won't come out

Glenn, a regular knot like boar mentioned works well on a swivel. I don't think I would trust the barbed eye but that's only because I've never used them.

Well it might be complicated for you 2, but I got faith in da General. And there pretty easy to use for most. Worse part would be finding who carries them.

I know a lot of people that run the fly line on rattle reels but I personally prefer using 30lb test tip up line with a 6 ft fluorocarbon or mono leader in 6-8 lb test.  Tip up line is that black nylon braided stuff.  Should have it at any sporting goods or fleet store and it's cheaper than the fly line.

It works great if knowledgeable people are using it but if you have kids or rookies with you you'll be untangling tangled  knots and then trying to get the hook out that stuck thru the line. The vinyl tip up line is better but fly line seems to be what everyone ends up going back to. I do have a couple with braid because it is the best thing out there in a perfect world but I'm careful about who grabs them.

yup gota go with the kids and wives tanglement issue on dacron. i make a statement unles the kid is young, u tangle it you untange it. its awsome to a kid or my wife get excited and ball everthi g up into a great big dacron wad. then ill help lol!..
