Ok, it's official I now must have everything related to hunting, fishing and outdoor activities a guy could need or want.  I went to Dicks and Cabela's today and left both stores empty handed. Nothing, nada in the stores said "you need/want me".  To really drive this home, the same thing happened several weeks ago when I went to Cabela's. As hard as it is to believe, I must be fully outfitted.  They might just as well close a couple sporting good stores in the greater Minneapolis area.

iI think its more like a case of Mangitous, we dont nessessarily want it it, but subconsiously need it, when we purchas such things the brain over floods our pleasure receptors with dopamine and endorphins, giving us a sence of Manhigh, Manhigh is the state we get to when we spend money on things even tho the wifes is gona either be pissed or make fun of us with sarcasim and jokes. So we hide our addictions. Its much like when we were young and stupid before our wives made us Man smart, we were single, out with buddies at a bar, and were lookin for prospects, "not much in fourtown tonight guys" But im gonna go talk to that one, Geeze Boar really?? you want THAT ONE!  Well ya see, I dont nessesarily want it.... but I need it! this is the fall of man. wemon just brought to the stores in another form. As we get older the needs and wants have a tendency to change places with one another.  Were MEN NOW! I bust my ass all week blah blah blah, so I want that. so you see its Mangitous

not so sure it's mangitous, but I want a Kimber micro 9 and the new ion auger.

and possibly a flasher (I'm 46 and I have never owned any ice fishing electronics)

I know, I know, right now Boar is like "WTF? with the 6 hundred fifty three billion fish that Dave has pulled through the ice, no electronics? I call boolcrap."

No, it's true Boar. My fish whispering abilities are 100% natural.

But, I've been observing the joy that the little flashing lights have brought to my friends for 25 years now and I'm starting to think I may possibly be missing something in my life. So, I might try it.

Oh, and a trail camera. I've been without a functional one for about 3 years now.

I could also use a blaze orange stormy cromer.

Oh, also I could use RCBS rock chucker supreme reloading set.

I would also need a chronograph, brass, bullets, powder, primers....

See, the next time one of you guys heads to the big toy store, just take me along. I will let you pay, and I will pick out all kinds of stuff.  :)

Boar, man, that's really deep.  Didn't know that side of you.  For me I think it's the other way around. I don't NEED it, but I WANT it.
Northerndave, just go ahead and take the plunge.

Boar that was deep.  Where the hell did that come from?

You only need so much "stuff".  Right now I'm thinning my "stuff" out by selling, throwing and giving it away.

I have a buddy that retired.  He had seen his father and his live in father-in-law die and had to deal with the stuff left behind.  Since then he has sold everything he doesn't use because he doesn't want his kids to have to deal with his hoard.

Now I don't entirely agree with his take on it, but since I retired, I found that my interests have changed and some "stuff" obsolete.  I also found that I had bought too much gear.  The resale sucks.

I also gave each kid the stuff that I want them to inherit to make sure it goes where I intend it too.
Good luck on them dividing up my tools.

You only need so much stuff.  When you see a Native go out fishing and catch them bare-handed it makes you think twice when you're carrying $1,000 in gear.

Buy what you want, but it is still just "stuff".  It won't buy you happiness.  You make happiness for free.

Yeah, I've never seen a native catch a fish bare-handed either.  It was poetic license.  I think I saw Survivor guy do it by reaching under a rock in a stream and pull up a nice trout.  You get the idea.

My priorities are pretty much the same, but my needs are fewer and my wants different.

I have a great deal of respect for Boar from having read his posts.  He's a hardworking family man.  A true outdoorsman.  I think he's a real badass that would I would want next to me when I walk into a bar in Tijuana.

With due respect; there are times at which he takes liberty with the keyboard that defy the purpose for which it was created.  It occurred to me what it reminds me of.

And then at other times:

I kind of like to do some shopping.  Not a long day of it but a drive somewhere is kind of fun with the wife.  I like checking out the meat dept. in stores etc.  I saw a Cabelas commercial on TV last night and said it would be fun to just drive to one and walk around.  Haven't been to one for awhile.  Then I let it drop.  I kept thinking what would I look for?????   I want a propane auger but not this year.  SO I to thought, I may actually walk out the door with nothing.....  What a thought, I have never walked out of Cabelas without buying something.  So then I thought, why go.  BUT I didnt tell the wife I was having these weird thoughts of not buying anything.
