Naa!! I did the big one on monday! All set. Little two stroke I just run dry and call it good.  :happy1:

So, did that clarify for ya Glenn? And Boar, yer right...there are two routes to pistol ownership. You don't NEED a CP to buy a pistol, but since they're already done the background check, you can zoom out of there as opposed to waiting the day for it. Got a couple buddies that bought handguns when I was with them, and neither have any permits. However, I'd check with the DNR about the "carrying in the woods" thing, so many of Minnysoda's laws kinda contradict each other...but they'll still nail ya.

By the way, you CAN carry without a permit on any LAND YOU OWN....so, if yer in yer own woods/land, Glenn, carry away!

This might help answer some questions before I wear out my fingers.  :rotflmao:

good morning, 32 and rising here, looks like a beautiful day, still to cool for big sexy to stretch his legs, but its coming. heading to grand forks to do some shopping and dinner and a movie. then a night cap at some friends.  I'm ready for spring, but still would like to get in a pike trip next weekend.......dang this should went to the good morning thread. dagnabit.

Transporting Firearms in Motor Vehicles

General Limits on Transporting Firearms within a Motor Vehicle


Minnesota Statutes, section 97B.045, prohibits transporting a firearm in a motor
vehicle unless the firearm is unloaded and either (1) fully secured in a gun case
expressly made for that purpose, where the case is zipped, snapped, buckled, tied,
or otherwise fastened, or (2) in the closed trunk of the motor vehicle. Minnesota
law does not require that the gun case be locked.

Exception for Handguns with Permit to Carry

The law provides an exception for a handgun being carried under the terms of a
valid permit to carry (i.e., in accordance with Minnesota Statutes, section 624.714).
A person with a valid permit to carry a pistol may transport one or more pistols in a
motor vehicle whether as a driver or a passenger, irrespective of whether the
handgun is cased or uncased, is loaded or unloaded, or is concealed or being
carried openly, and whether it is kept on the person or elsewhere in the vehicle, and
whether the person is inside or outside the vehicle. When the handgun is left
stored in any condition within a vehicle, “constructive possession” applies.

Speaking of wrong info, I have a neighbor (Yes, it was NL#1...)) that wanted me to give a group of her friends a session on getting your carry permit. I do give talks on this to different folks that are considering it. Basically, I actually try to steer them away from it unless they're well versed in all aspects of handgun safety and regularly shoot. After talking with her about it, and some comments from her/her friends, I declined to even speak to the group. She was pissed.

Some of the comments:

"I want to carry a Glock"...Me: "Do you even know what a Glock is?" "Ya, it's a kind of gun everyone has"....

"I'm a sharpshooter"...Me: How/who rated you that?  "I was shooting a shotgun at little targets, and they said I was a sharpshooter..."  Me: A shotgun?!  Her: "Ya, you know, the rifle with the little bullets?"

"If cops are so good, why don't they just shoot a guy in the leg, instead of killing him all the time?" (A common one)

"Cops are taught to always kill with a head shot"... (Ya, this actually came from the NL idjit)

"You can't carry a gun in Rochester, city law says so..."

"Is it legal to carry bullets?"

I wanted no part of her group of clowns. But, this is the type of foolishness that is out there; ala Diane Feinstein.
